Our Founder Zatoichi Katsu
The shinobi was a blind man who was a master martial/weapons artist. Due to an accident in the Great Shinobi wars Katsu became blind. He didn't let this stop his growth in the world of the shinobi. Katsu developed a form of Taijutsu that he applied to his everyday life. This art of Taijutsu was named Zatoichi or Blind One, it allowed Katsu to focus his chakra and slowly release it from his body as a pulse/vibration surrounding the user, these vibrations would reflect off of object back to the user. The Katsu could then sense the make up of the surrounding area by making a map (similar to sonar) to "see" his surroundings. Katsu further developed the technique so that using elemental chakra, one could conditions ones body to be like the elements themselves.
For example Katsu would use earth chakra and combine it with Zatoichi taijutsu to see through any object in and on the ground. Using the vibrations created by his body the vibrations are sent through the earth he could see great distances.
