3-2-1 Point system

Iv been an avid Fan art veiwing member and i can see that the art contest grows each and every month. its hard to win a medal with all the great competition going on which i think is great for everyone.
I have come to realize that voting on the art of the month is very difficult in the status quo for there are drawings that deserve same credit for being a close 2nd or 3rd best amongst the entries.

The current system my allow a clear 1st place but the 2nd and 3rd place my but sometimes in question and to top of it all, there's a strong chance of ties in voting.

What im suggesting while bring out a clear 1st, 2nd and 3rd placer and hopefully will add content and credibility to the results.

Here it is:
all voters get to score his or her top 3 picks

3 points for your 1st place,
2 points for your 2nd place,
and 1 point for your 3rd place.
in the end, all score are sum up and the winners are declared for that particular month.

the highest score is the winner

So basically instead of voting in a poll, everyone gives points to 3 artists? And by the end of the voting week, the mod will have to sum up and see who wins?

Personally i don't think that can be fixed,
though i still support the idea, it will still have a pro and con

Pro: Different distribution of points among various artists
Con: Favorites, that can't be stopped, I've seen people
with professional technique in there drawings, that must have taken years
to develop, and yet they've been overlooked <--those who
disagree with that otherwise are oblivious.

Doing it "by hand" might be a bit annoying for Cali, something tells me he already has his hands full. A program would simplify the things a lot, but that's not my domain xD
On the other hand, I wonder how many voters will be so eager to the change, rating 3 artists instead of one simple click in a poll. People are quite lazy after all.

At any rate, nice idea, +respect for giving it so much thought, but I'm okay with either way the voting will be held xD

its a nice idea...but like lara said...people are VERY lazy already to VOTE!...they would rather find this more LAZIER to TYPE in...i mean this way there wont be any suspense left for the winners aswell...

also more work for cali...then summing all that up and the announcing it can be VERY hectic work for him...he already has his hands full...this would rather make him go nuts...

I really like the idea, since it is difficult to vote for only one person each time, every round had at least 4 or 5 amazing artworks, and choosing one is really difficult, so I think the idea is good...

But it will bring a lot of extra work for Cali, the poor guy

For starters it's unpractical as currently that would mean everyone should post his top three in a post, which makes voting already quite untrustworthy. Once voted in a poll it's done, but you can still start messing around with your posts. You can't make a poll so that you can only vote 3 times and even if it would, then it's not going to say who you voted first, second and third.

Secondly way too much work. I already need to IP check all the people who voted for the top 3-5, depending on the results. Now I also need to start checking all the posts and start calculating everything? I'm not going even to consider something like that.

But on top of it all you propose this to have a clear top 3, then there is no reason to use this is when that's not the case as there is no proven correlation that you would achieve that result using this system. In fact I would say the opposite. It could be vey well that absolutely nothing changes, outside making things unpractical, however if you think about it, it could even have the opposite result, namely that now we get 6 or 7 people all in the top three. I mean if you can only vote once, you can only vote once, but if you can vote three times, then the chance votes gets spread over different players increases significantly, meaning the chance you get more draws increases too and what's the point in that?

So the final result would be then that not only would it be unpractical and time-consuming, the result you aim for is very likely to not be obtained and potentially might even cause the opposite effect. When something gives no benefits and only disadvantages, the answer is simple: no.
