Episode 288 introduced a character named Ran. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that connection.
Not only does she look just like Rin(sans the cheek markings) but in a transition from a flashback about Kakashi,Guy and Rin she took Rins place.
Another thing that caught my attention was when Ran said" so you got your revenge".
This could mean that either she was related to Rin and knew that the Mist was the reason for her death or the animators made a mistake trying to foreshadow events.
Too many coincidences or naa.

are you sure that was not Rin the the flash back?

it WAS rin in the flashbacks but in the episode it was a shinobi named ran ...
but your right , there were too many similarities but it was only to get kakashi n gai sorta hyped upped for losing someone who looked like rin , their beloved class mate

im glad im here....while this thread has been made many times i can help....i think this is who ran is http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Ran
but i could be wrong as it DEFINATLY points to ran being rin(and they just misspelled it)...however it could be possible that she is a sibling(unlikely) that is all i could find as alternate to rin.....but i personally think it is a non canon plothole
