Why did Nagato die?
I know he died from expending his chakra to zero. But WHY did he do that?
We know now from Madara that the chakra from the Biju in Gedo Mazo can be accessed and used (when he made the Zetsu army) and Nagato had the chakra receptors in his back that Gedo Mazo put there, so why didn't he summon it to borrow chakra??
Wouldn't it have made more sense and improved their chances of winning if Nagato had joined forces to fight AGAINST Madara WITH Naruto? Especially since Nagato surely had more intel on Madara and his hideouts! Konan too! Why didn't she share that very valuable intel on Madara's intangibility limitations with the new "bridge to peace" Naruto and fight WITH him as an ally?
*EDIT* I know no one KNOWS. I'm just curious if anyone has any theories?

Re: Why did Nagato die?
He had to die for the story to go Kishi's way.
Nagato served his purpose.

Nagato served his purpose to the story so kishi put him to sleep.

Re: Why did Nagato die?
Nagato believed in Naruto. That's why he ran out of chakra on purpose.

Because kishi loves obvious plot holes.

Re: Why did Nagato die?
1. Nagato was way too overpowered to leave in the manga
2. It was for the story that another person as the leader of akatsuki has put his fate in naruto
3. gedo mazo is too much for for kishi to draw and he didnt feel like doing it

Re: Why did Nagato die?
So far, I am leaning towards the fact that he didn't think of it. In other words, as I said in another thread, he isn't too bright. I am also wondering why he chose to remain boney and unhealthy looking when he can simply absorb chakra.

I agree with NLee. You guys think too much of these characters as real people, when they are just people on a piece of paper. Can we just consider that Kishi didn't think to do that?
To play along, I guess Konan was so intent on killing Madara herself that she didn't think she'd need to share with Naruto. Nagato switching sides would have given the Shinobi Army too huge of an advantage anyway. He was ****ing haxxed. Also, Naruto knowing Madara's weaknesses would have just sent him running to Madara right then and there. Don't forget that Madara WANTS to take the Kyuubi from Naruto. Keeping him safe might have been better in her eyes for the moment.

he realised he killed his only ally being jiraiya and was ashamed of himself and felt he needed redemption and so in return save the konoha people he skill for jiraiya's sake.
Even dead the guy can save the day.

Re: Why did Nagato die?
oooh you mean when he brought everyone to life and he died...konan said other wise she said " no nagato dont use that technique, it will use up all your lifeforce" and lifeforce is different from chakra i believe..so thats y he died..im pretty sure if he died from chakra depletion he would have died after using chibaki tensei...but yea he gave his life for some dumb reasons lol...i geuss they didnt want that to be the end of naruto, cuz nagato would have ended him even in that state xD look at me soundin all smart and stuff lol

Re: Why did Nagato die?
My theory is this:
Nagato/Kabuto/Sasuke were meant to be the main villains of the series. Madara is a tacked on character to keep the series going.
Think about it this way. Kabuto and Sasuke were both followers of Oro, Nagato was a Jaraiya student. Madara and the kages are the only active characters that are from a considerably different generation. And Madara is from a WAY older generation.
Also, how many plotholes have come to light since Madara started talking and identified himself as Madara?

Nagato believed it was Naruto that would save the world so he merely gave up.

how would the manga be where it is right now? Everything would have changed if he had switched sides. Now the Allied army would have one of the strongest characters and the Akatsuki wouldn't. This war would be over if Nagato hadn't died.

Re: Why did Nagato die?
because him dying in defeat was more of a moral victory than a physical one for naruto and kishi with many other writers like to use that now and again. Anyone can write about the hero killing all the bad guys but to add depth it helps if there is an almost supreme enemy that dies not because of defeat but because the hero broke through to his reasoning. If nagato wasnt all locked up in the little chamber thing of his and just fighting by himself against naruto not all the peins, he would have probably slaughtered him given how it took itachi b and naruto to take him down. But by having naruto beat him morally and get him to do one last act of good before death, it adds a better foundation and premise to naruto. It turns him from just a cool dude who beats the hell out of guys, he is a hero who is bearing the weight of the world who is so confident that even the all powerful holder of the rinnegan bowed to him.
