i noticed the following before too, but didnt really follow up on it until now:

It is most likely a mistake it could've been done by the people who clean the raw manga, it could've been Oda..
What would be the point if Zoro kept his eye shut all this time and keep it all mysterious. And opens it without mentioning it versus the first medium serious enemy.
