    Konohamaru will kill Kabutomaru?

Was watching the old Naruto anime episodes and I just thought of this...

Konohamaru was recently featured during Pain's invasion to show that he has matured and learned Rasengan + the Shadow Clone jutsu. It paved the way for someone who formerly looked down upon Naruto, Ebisu, to show that not only he, but the village in whole now highly regards Naruto due to his vast list of achievements. And that Konohamaru has Naruto's spirit of protecting his village and loved ones.

I ALSO believe that the point of doing this was to set up an encounter down the road! It would make perfect sense for Konohamaru to fight Orochimaru and get revenge for the sacrifice his grandfather made. Obviously Oro was killed by ******/Itachi and this cannot happen. Instead I think Kishi may be setting the pieces in place for Kabuto/Oro to fight Konohamaru and bring resolution to that sad chapter in his life. It seemed strange he of all characters would be shown during such an intense and already plot-filled point in the manga. Could this possibly be why? It seems like something Kishi might pull. I'm interested in what others think... Was Konohamaru was reintroduced into the story because he will play a larger role down the road in the Kabutomaru plotline? I hope so! Get revenge for Sarutobi!

NarutoWikia info on the Hiruzen Sarutobi Orochimaru Encounter *CRY*
    Invasion of Konoha arc

When the invasion of Konoha begins, Hiruzen was forced to do battle with Orochimaru, who infiltrated the village and planned Konoha's destruction just so he could kill Hiruzen and kidnap Sasuke Uchiha. Soon after the battle began, Orochimaru resurrects Hashirama and Tobirama, the first two Hokage, so that Hiruzen can feel the enjoyment of fighting his former masters. In his old age, Hiruzen was unable to be much of a match for the two Hokage, and was further inhibited by his desire to not hurt either. Orochimaru's presence also impeded Hiruzen's fight, as seeing just how monstrous his treasured student had become broke his heart. Although he used his summon, Enma, to help him in battle, Hiruzen was unable to defeat the two Hokage, as any damage that was done was simply regenerated.

Having no other choice, Hiruzen used a combination of shadow clones and the Dead Demon Consuming Seal to seal away the souls of his former masters. As he bid a heartfelt goodbye to his teachers, he turned his attention to Orochimaru. Charging at Orochimaru and throwing aside his former pupil's Kusanagi, attempted to seal Orochimaru's soul as well. Sensing what Hiruzen was trying to do, Orochimaru called his Kusanagi to him, stabbing Hiruzen in the back.

Despite the fatal injury, Hiruzen continued to try to remove Orochimaru's soul, unconcerned with the sword in his back due to death being guaranteed as a result of using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal. After an hour passes, Hiruzen came to terms with the fact that he was too old and weak to completely remove Orochimaru's soul. Doing what little he could and hoping to rectify his mistake of allowing Orochimaru to escape years earlier, Hiruzen sealed Orochimaru's arms to ensure that he would never again be able to use jutsu, a punishment for Orochimaru's obsession with power. As Orochimaru began to curse his former master for what he had done, Hiruzen bid Orochimaru farewell and hoped that they would meet again. Knowing that the village was saved and seeing Orochimaru as the boy he once was, Hiruzen died with a smile on his face.

Konohamaru using his Rasengan against Pain's Naraka Path.

During the Akatsuki's invasion on Konoha, Konohamaru has been seen peeking out a corner, gasping for breath but looking no worse for wear. He witnesses Naraka Path Pain judging two Konoha shinobi, killing the one that lied to him and draining the energy of the other one, although he doesn't understand the technique at that moment. Before he attempted to escape from scene, he is spotted by Pain. Fortunately, his master Ebisu jumps in giving Konohamaru a chance to escape. However, Ebisu is easily defeated, but before being killed, he's saved by some shuriken thrown by Konohamaru. Naraka Path charges in while Konohamaru braces himself and starts performing hand seals. Konohamaru is caught by Naraka Path Pain, and witnesses his technique, understanding it. At that moment, the Konohamaru in Naraka Path's grasp disappears, revealing that it was a Shadow Clone. Having distracted his enemy, the real Konohamaru attacks from behind with a Rasengan, scoring a full-impact hit that slammed Naraka Path through a wall incapacitating him.

Thanks! I definitly see Kishi time skipping and going to a peaceful Konoha with Konohamaru as Hokage and using his standing/skill/memory of his teacher Naruto as a measure of how great Naruto truly was. Through his lasting impact on the people and village, Kishi can show Naruto acheived and was a Hokage to even surpass the 4th. I feel like the series is winding down and will come to a close soon.
