What was the point of fma..?

Ok, so I have been wandering, what was the point of the first fma anime, the one that almost had nothing to do with the manga..? And why did the one that was similar to the manga story, brotherhood came before it..? Wasnt it suppose to be the other way around? Dont get me wrong, I really liked the first fma anime, but I just wonder why...

, yeah that was the message of it, but what I meant was, why make this anime if it had almost nothing to do with the story of the original manga, then later make an anime (brotherhood) that was exactly like the manga.. Wasnt it suppose to be the other way around..?

They didn't have enough material, manga wasn't over then they made 1st anime.

I get ya.. But It would have been WAY better if they would have done it before brotherhood, when brotherhood was over, but I guess they were impatient, or wanted people to think it was the original, get them to watch the first one, and after being a little dissapointed the story was complete off get them to watch brotherhood. But I think it could have worked better if they had waited then after brotherhood was over realease it as a fresh air, new storyline fma for the fans
