When Kato was young he wore the traditional Hyūga black and white ropes.

Kato has great ambition and is a very proud person, who loves challenges and will never back down, no matter the situation. He will do anything to defend his clan or his friends, as when he was raised he was constantly being pushed to be the best and protect the main branch of his clan.

The Byakugan; Literally meaning "White Eye", Meaning "All Seeing White Eye") is the dōjutsu kekkei genkai of the Hyūga clan.

The first ability of the Byakugan gives the user a near 360º field of vision, except for one blind spot at the back of the neck above the third thoracic vertebra.

The second ability is being able to see through solid objects, and can use a degree of telescopic sight. The distance and the degree of telescopic sight varies from person to person, and can be improved.

The third and one of the greatest uses of the Byakugan is the ability to see chakra, chakra flow as well as the chakra circulation system inside the body with great detail.

Background Info.

History:
Kato was born into the Branch House of the Hyūga Clan, and was brought up to serve and protect the Main House of the clan.
Kato's Father wanted Kato to be more than the Main Houses servant, so he pushed Kato constantly, training him in Gentle Fist and helping him improve his Byakugan. His Father was constantly telling him to be the best, so he can protect his clan, friends and most importantly protect his village. This constant support and encouragement gave Kato the strong will he has now, The reason he will never back down.

When Kato graduated from the academy and became a genin he strived to become the best and have his name known by all. Not long after he became a genin he was entered for the chuunin exams, which did nothing but boost his confidence as he felt like he was already becoming recognised for his talents.
However the chuunin exams where allot tougher that he thought they would be and he struggled through the Forest of Death exam, this put a major dent in his confidence.
In the preliminary exams Kato came up against a hidden sand ninja, who he defeated easily, however in the second round of the exams he came up against a hidden mist genin who had been trained by one of the hidden mist's elite jounin. The hidden mist genin was a fierce competitor who would never give up no matter how much Kato hurt him, the intense battle kept going and going until both fighters where nearing there limit. As Kato was reaching his limit he remembered the message that his Father brought him up with. Never back down. This flashback gave Kato the strength to finish the fight and was the victor, After this strenuous battle Kato was deemed a Chuunin.
