Can I speed up my router?
OK, I have the router Cisco Valet M10, and it's inconsistent at times. Sometimes it is fast, sometimes it's slow as a snail, especially on YouTube and NB. So, I would like to know whether or not, I could speed it up and make it faster basically.

I don't think it's your router. You're visiting sites with a high volumer of traffic. You're bound get some congestion.

And to answer your question, I don't think you can speed up your router. You can only go as fast as you're ISP will allow.

Re: Can I speed up my router?
If you're using adsl then the other people in your street that's running adsl with the same company would slow you down because the street shares the one line.
I get around 10-13mb/s if its only me + a few others in the morning but once it hits night time my net drops down to like 1mb/s or even less.

Re: Can I speed up my router?
Oh, ok. I get about 54 Mbps, so I don't know if that is fast or not.

LOL. If that is 54 Megabytes/sec then you shouldn't be complaining, that is fast as hell. But if that's 54 Megabits/sec then that's slow Try asking customer service.

What is wrong with you, I have a 30mbit connection and I am totally fine with it because I used to get 700KByte/s max.
OT: If you wan't a faster connection, upgrade but call your ISP first since that seems to be a problem on their end.

Re: Can I speed up my router?
It's 54 Megabytes...
I'll try to call them, because it's slowing down everything now. Chrome, IE9, and Firefox, as well as my downloads.

54 MEGABYTES?
How could anyone complain with that speed. OMG.
Your ISP must be seriously messed up if it goes from 54MB/s to not even 19KB/s.

What the f*ck? 54 megabytes/sec? In 20 seconds you would download approx. 1gb..
Your speed is like x4.5 of mine..mine is only 12megabytes atm. What is your download speed at, screen capture one.

bps is bits per second. Bps is bytes per second therefore Mbps is megabits per second. Bits are commonly used in connection rate (internet speed). While bytes are commonly used in storage (hard drive space). So more than likely, your speed is in bits.

Re: Can I speed up my router?
You can call your internet service provider and complain if your speed drops under what they have promised. I've had a similar problem when I switched to another isp, my internet speed would variate between 210Mbps to 2Mbps downstream, and in my case the router was defect. So try a speed testing software or website, like speedtest.net or even better if you have a more local site for your country since i've experienced speedtest.net to vary a bit in the results even if you choose a server nearby.
When I complained to my isp they could see that the router was acting up and sent me a new one, and now my internet speed is pretty stable.

Re: Can I speed up my router?
Well, thanks all, I guess the speed net thing should work.
