The Truth About the 6th Element in the Narutoverse
The Truth About the 6th Element in the Narutoverse
History of the Elements
Many ancient philosophies used a set of classical elements to explain patterns in nature. These naturally-occurring fundamentals are actually more accurate in being classical states of matter than "elements" as they are defined in modern science.
Most notably the four Greek classical elements earth, water, air, and fire correspond approximately with the four states of matter, solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.
Japanese traditions use a set of elements called the 五大 (go dai, literally "five great"). These five are earth, water, fire, wind, and void. These came from Buddhist beliefs; the classical Chinese elements (五行, go gy?) are also prominent in Japanese culture, especially to the influential Neo-Confucianists during the Edo period.
In the manga Kishimoto added lightning as the fifth element. In native Maori tradition lightning corresponds to plasma. Lightning caused thunderstorms and electricity. In modern form it is known as pure energy.
The 6th Element
The sixth classical element is "void" or "kyomu" in ancient Japanese theories ("idea" in Greek; "aether" in Hindu theory).
Earth represented things that were solid.
Water represented things that were liquid.
Fire represented things that destroyed.
Air represented things that moved.
Lightning represented things that were plasma.
Void represented things not of our every day life.
According to ancient and medieval science, "void" (Greek αἰθήρ, aithēr), also known as ether, is the material that fills the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere. Aristotle included it as a fifth element distinct from the other four, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Plato and Aristotle referred to Aether as "Idea", and in this sense, it may be regarded as that which exists outside the material world.
Here's an illustration:
trigram of the elements
The 6 elements are composed of yin and yang.
The full lines are yang, the broken are yin, and the trigrams are the elements.
Void is pure yang.
Wind is yin, yang, yang
Water is yin, yang, yin.
Lightning is yang, yin, yin.
Fire is yang, yin, yang.
Earth is pure yin.
We all know pure chakra can be converted into elemental chakra depending on the affinity of the user. Now the question is can someone convert chakra into void?
The answer is yes. Here's how. (I've taken this from NMR, thanks to Omniryu)
Kakashi's MS uses the 6th elemental manipulation. Same goes with all the summoning techniques in the Narutoverse.
"Void" meaning "sky" or "heaven", represents those things beyond our everyday experience, particularly those things composed of pure energy. Atoms, their component particles, and atomic forces fall under this category, as do people in a higher state of consciousness. Bodily, void represents spirit, thought, and creative energy. It represents our ability to think and to communicate, as well as our creativity. It can also be associated with power, creativity, spontaneity, and inventiveness.
Void is of particular importance as the highest of the elements. In martial arts, particularly in fictional tales where the fighting discipline is blended with magic or the occult, one often invokes the power of the Void to connect to the quintessential creative energy of the world. A warrior properly attuned to the Void can sense his surrounding and act without thinking, and without using his physical senses.
Tobi's Space-Time Jutsu and Pein's 6 Forms
This is what I was just thinking about. Pein has the Rinnegan that came from the Sage of the Six Paths who created ninjutsu. The six paths of ninjutsu are fire, water, wind, earth, lighting and void. Each of his bodies are designed for each of the six paths. His Fuuma body is the summoning body and the Yahiko body we first saw him in was the water body.
Jiraiya mentions that Pein could use all 6 elements, a remarkable feat for a ninja. In the pic after that (no need to show it), he also mentions that for some reason, Pein is only using summons.
the 6 bodies, chapter 369
In this pic, you can clearly see that there are 6 bodies, which is also the number of elements that Pein had mastered. Combined with the fact that the Fuuma body seems to be limiting himself to summons, then it is possible that his six bodies are equal divisions of his elemental ability (more or less). His Fuuma body is probably made up of his space/time prowess, hence the summons.
Madara shows the ability to recover from what are presumably debilitating or fatal blows. After being slashed across the midsection by Sasuke's sword, he collapses, only to stand up again a few seconds later and complain about the speed of the attack, and later when Naruto hits him in the back with a Rasengan. The attacks literally phase through him, avoiding damage. Itachi later remarks Madara as an "invincible immortal".
Madara also shows the ability to travel long distances within relatively short timespans, escaping the final explosion created by Deidara and reappearing in Amegakure, then travelling to the Valley of the End all within a very short time span.
Tobi uses the 6th element to transform is physical body into void making himself an "invincible immortal". He also transforms his chakra into void to travel through space and time allowing him to teleport to long distances within almost an instant.
Well that's all for now. Your thoughts would be highly appreciated.
I know my limits... That's why I'm breaking them!!!
