Is there any meaning of this scar?
1.) We all have noticed the scar across Iruka's nose. It was never told how or why he got it. Apparently, he's had it ever since he was a little kid.
2.) After the battle with Madara, Hashirama Senju (1st Hokage) also got the same kind of scar across his nose. When they put his face on the Hokage monument, they added the scar along with it too.
According to Narutopedia: "His face on the Hokage Monument has a gash across the bridge of the nose, similar to Iruka Umino's scar. He doesn't seem to have any scar or marking while he was alive, though"
3.) Now... on the coverpage of chapter 11 when Team 7 embarks to the Wave Country (about to encounter Zabuza), Naruto has the same scar across his face. It looks like fresh blood or just paint. maybe war paint?
Question
So can anyone come up with any ideas or guesses for the meaning/significance of this scar? Is it just coincidence? IMO, I don't think it is. But I also don't have much of an idea when it comes to figuring out what it could mean, if there is any meaning.

Re: Is there any meaning of this scar?
It could be just to show the readers that Iruka's seen some action in his life. Which probably means Kishi has never had any plans to put him in any real fights..

Did he have it during the chapter that showed him being carried away from his parents during the Kyubi's attack? Maybe Kyuubi gave him that scar.

The supposed Sanbi Jinchuuriki doesn't have the same kind of scar. it's under his left eye and is vertical

Re: Is there any meaning of this scar?
I think he had the jinchuriki on the cover with all the other, but he may have lost it, and it is also said that juukimaru is somehow related to that jinchuriki, thats why he can control 3tails a bit.
If kyuubi gave that scar to Iruka, the it has to be an accident, a rock or something, even kyuubis chakra, just by being close to it, would have given him a scar all over his body(maybe even die)

Re: Is there any meaning of this scar?
I dont think there is a special reason for irukas scar.its just kishis way to express himself through the charicters he created.
kakashi wears a mask.I dont also think there's any reason for that...its just...kakashi.kakashi would not be kakashi without that mask.
and remember that konoha ninja whick has bandages on his face
remember itachi with that strange lines on his face
remember naruto with that strange lines on his cheeks
I hope you understand what I mean

thats what i always assumed, that the scar was given to him from s.o.{the kyuubi} in the battle where his parents died.. and the scar has remained on his face reminding him of his loss and "normally",if the scar was given to him by the kyuubi,it would also remind him of his "hate" towards naruto which he overcame {or never had actually} showing that iruka may not be a good fighter but is a strong person in other ways..
if you ask me iruka has a pretty big role in the story.
{p.s. who knows where naruto would be now if iruka hadnt been there to acknoledge him..}

if you meant to say his scar looks "stupid" then you should not use gay. Gay is NOT a synonym for "stupid"

Gay is a synonym for every negative word there is in the dictionary!

Re: Is there any meaning of this scar?
Using the word "Gay" to replace any negative word in the dictionary is nothing but a lack of knowledge to use the proper word.
back to topic...
The dolphin theory seems kinda right to me. I don't really see Iruka having much importance. But, its also something I didn't really think about before. Good job on picking that up.

Re: Is there any meaning of this scar?
the scars are just other methods used by kishi to have certain characters stand out by being remembered:
naruto : cheek lines
gai sensei/ rock lee : weird ass hair
kakashi: white hair/mask
iruka: scar
idk about u guys but i think the 1st and 2cd hokage have the sickest hokage suits!!!! look like samurai!!!!!!!
