I surprise myself sometimes
ok. i was rereading some the manga and came across something very interesting in the jiraiya/pain fight. what i am talking about is this page.
Naruto 376 page 13 | One Manga
the great sage changes to the plural tense in the third panel. THEY will change the world. not HE. In this he is of course referring the eventual teaming up of pain and naruto. we are going to have a gaara round two or madara stops gaara round two. what you guys and girls think?

It may be a translation problem, I remember seeing that as "He".

'they' and 'their' are sometimes used as a non-technical expression of the singular third person when the gender is not known
"A person can’t help their birth"
Also, the great sage toad first started with "this pupil" which explicitly signifies singularity. to switch to plural would be inconsistent and there would have been no need to say "this pupil" in the first place. If the true intent of the great sage was to say more than one destined child, then I think the great sage would have made that clear from the beginning. So I think it is best to infer that 'they' is singular third person.
where why and how does Gaara fit into your theory?

Re: I surprise myself sometimes
ok but look at this
he says that the destined child will be the one that will stumble at the mountain and he will be gifted with the power of the toads. And as I remember Naruto is the one with the toads not Pain/Nagato.

This is exactly whats going on here. Notice in the panel above, where big frog says "this pupil."

Re: I surprise myself sometimes
p.13
----
G Toad: That apprentice will bring a great change to the shinobi world.
G Toad: I saw this in my dream.
Jiraiya: Change?
G Toad: He will bring either unprecedented peace...or unprecedented destruction to the world.
G Toad: One of these.
Jiraiya: One of them?
Jiraiya: What do you mean?
G Toad: You will guide the one to bring the change.
G Toad: And there will come a time when you must make a great decision.
Jiraiya: A decision?
It's one and it's he sorry bout that.

it is a really bad theory that was bred through the fact that i was trying to kill sometime and i had reread the manga too much. juwt thought i would point it out.
and the gaara thing stems from the similarties in that they are both "evil" and are being used as tools by another more evil individual. gaara had oro manipulating them to attack konoha and pain has madara manipulating him to attack konoha. i could feasibly see pain start to change but this change being stopped by madara

As it is an already "old" chapter, they don't keep all the translations they usually have.

I dont think there's a translation problem...its what it should be written.THEY WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.that frog means naruto and pain...he(or she) says that both will be very strong but only one of them will be the "destened child" and jiraya will have to choose which on of them is child of prophesy.
and as we know jiraya made his choise!

It is still to be seen what it meant. But to me, suddenly changing from "him" to "them" is a mistake.
Unless the original in Japanese means both and translators found no other way to reflect that.
Look, when he is ending up the story, it goes back to "a young child, he".
http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/376/15/
So another option is that the "they, them" is a respectful address to a single person who will be addressed as a king, with the impersonal use of the plural.
For those who watch Bleach, one of the fillers was about a girl who spoke about herself as "Us", as she was from the nobility.
