All mangakas are ahead of what the lastest release is by at least 10 chapters.

He has to draw a draft, then a clean version and then a permanent version of every page (18 pages) with different kinds of pencils and types of paper. He needs to do his research on the story so he doesn't screw up the plot. Sometimes they need to make a colourspread, promotional stuff, involvement in games/movies/anime.

We can't expect 1 chapter a week especially for a story that has been running for over 11 years and is only just over the half way point.

Give the man a break, If he would deceide to only release a chapter once every two weeks I couldn't be bothered with it. He has so much stuff he needs to do every single day.

I lol'd at this. He doesn't only write a chapter, he draws it too.
You think its a simple process, because reading it takes only 10 minutes, but it's not. It's many long hours of work. Have you seen the detail in each of his page? The drawing takes a lot of time. The dialogue has to be good. There are many factors in play. No matter what kind of work someone is in, everyone needs a break from it once in a while. Think about it, no matter how epic One Piece is, Oda has a family he needs to spend time with. And more.

Every new arc, he has to many sure he doesn't create any loopholes or anything like that either. He has to come up with names, and story, he needs time to do research too.
