Kūkaku Shiba

does anyone else wonder if Kūkaku Shiba was once a Shinigami?

for anyone who doesnt know who i am taking about this is her


my reason i think this is for 2 reasons one Yoruichi seemed to be friends with her and the 2nd is she seems to carry around a sword.

I dont think so but TBH those episodes where she was in were so long ago i totally forgot about her.

She was from an ex-noble family and was the elder sister of Kaien so it's certainly possible. Kaien was well respected in the Gotei 13 and even Byakuya gasped when he found out that Ganju was from the Shiba clan to the point where he immediately apologized for going easy on him and instantly took him out with 1-hit.

Considering she's close friends with Yoruichi and she carries around a sword:

I'd say she could definitely have been a Shinigami before. But I'm not sure how she could have retired. Shinigami can't do that.

yes i think its actually quite likely that she was one she was a noble so she would have reasonable SP and something must have made the Shiba family so renound so its possible that it could be her meaning she could have perhaps been captain or lt rank at sometime which would explain why her and yoruichi know each other and get on so well and we have seen that she is good at kido so it seems that she has at least some training which would most likely come from the SS. also that sword that she always carried around could easily be a zanpukto.

wow i didn't even notice that she had her arm replaced, when i first say her on the anime.

now i don't think that losing an arm would be cause for her to retire as we have seen that both Soi Fon (though later repaired) and old man Yamamoto have both lost arms and are still very capable fighters and shinigami

yeah i know i dont believe it my self i was just putting it was just the most plausible thing i could come up with.

You do know that Kukaku was Kaien's older sister right?

In any case, with her strong relations to Yoruichi something tells me she is/was stronger than Kaien. That's just me though
