This is a tutorial on how to fill the Bubble, here, there will be different ways posted. This tutorial is mainly for showing how to add text to the pages for the FUB (Fill Up The Bubble) Contest, but it also shows how to add/create text to/on images.

    Obtaining the Page to Fill
Right click and save the image, DO NOT take a screenshot of the page then crop it. Saving offers the highest quality.

The Anime Ace Font is the font used in most manga, it gives a more official look to the page when you're done filling. Click here to download.

    How to Install fonts:

    • Type the following command, and then click OK:%windir%\fonts
    • Copy the font and paste it in that folder.

    Mac

    • Before installing your fonts, quit all active applications.
    • Locate the folder that contains the fonts you want to install.
    • Copy or move all the font files from their individual font folders into either of the following locations. (Note that the fonts must be loose in the destination folder, not in a subfolder.)
    • /Library/Fonts/ Note: You must be logged on as an “Administrator” to place fonts in this location. Fonts in this location can be used by any user.
    • /Users/Library/Fonts/ Note: Fonts in this location can be used only by the specified user.

Photoshop is a world leading software in Graphic Design. This tutorial will show how to use this software to fill the bubbles. Each version of Photoshop is similar, so by following this tutorial, you should have no problem working with other versions other than CS6 (Which I will be using). If you intend to use it only for Filling Pages, I suggest you use a different method from this tutorial.

    Download
    Free (Trial).Legal.Official
    Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended

    TUTORIAL

    ►Open the Image

To the top left, click File then select Open. A window will open where you will then select the Image.

►Prepare the Image to Be Edited

To the right of PS, there should be a Layers Panel with the layer of the image. If there is a small "lock icon" to the right of the layer, double click to remove it. The layer can now be edited.

    ►Adding the Text

Click the Type Tool then click the section of the page you want to add text to. A blinking cursor will appear, this is where you will type. Be sure to make the text color black. If you wish to edit the font/text style/size, look to the top where the text toolbar is located. If you will not be using anime ace, I suggest you use a simply font such as Arial or Century Gothic. Remember to center the text by clicking the Center tool on the Text toolbar . Depending on the font, the text can be made bold, italicized or underlined by clicking the option selector beside the font selector.

    ►Saving and Uploading

Click File, then Save As. A window will Open, name the filled page as a PNG file. Your next step is to upload, I strongly recommend imgur.com, it's quick and easy when it comes to image sharing.

Paint.Net is a great software for simple tasks such as filling the bubbles. It's less complicated and easier to use than Photoshop, and it gives better results than Paint.

    Download
    Free.Legal.Official
    Paint.Net 3.5.10/Paint.Net 3.5.10

    TUTORIAL

    ►Open the Image

At the Top, select file, then open. A window will come up, select the Page and click Open.

    ►Adding Text

Click the type tool . On the type toolbar, select your font, font size etc. The next thing to do is to select the center alignment and begin to insert the text. Keep in mind the tips, and remember that the filling should be readable.

    ►Saving and Uploading

When you're done filling all the bubbles, go to File then Save As. Insert the name of the image and proceed to save. The next step is to upload, I recommend you use imgur.com, it's fast and easy to use.

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. It's very similar to Photoshop.

    Download
    Free.Legal.Official
    Gimp 2.8.0

    TUTORIAL

    ►Open the Image

Select "File" -> "Open". Then select the picture of the page to open. It will look like this:
Note: The side windows are swapped, because I was used to Photoshop's layout. Don't get confused.

    ► Select the Text Tool
Look at the window with your tools in them. Find the "Text tool".
    Here is the text tool:

    ►Adding Text
Now that you have your manga page opened and your text tool selected, you are ready to start typing. select your font.
Use your text tool and drag a box over a bubble you want to start on.
Be sure to mess around with alignment, spacing, etc. Whatever makes it look the neatest. Those settings can be found below the tools when the Text Tool is selected.
You type in the bottom box and it shows up in the box you dragged.
    Like so:

Note: Keep in mind that every time you type something new, it automatically creates a new layer. It should look like this when you're done:

    ►Save
When you're all done, save it. When saving do the following.
Name it. "File" -> "Save As..." -> Click "Select File Type (By Extension)" -> Scroll down until you see the "PNG" file option. select that.
(Or simply type ".png" at the end of your file name.)
It should look like this when you're done:

    ► Uploading
Once your text-filled page is saved as a .PNG file, you need to upload it to a photo-sharing site to get a url for it. For this particular contest you MUST use those that are accepted, among them, I suggest www.imgur.com
Copy the url it gives you and include it in the [IMG][/IMG] tags in the PM to the contest host.

Paint (formerly Paintbrush for Windows) is a simple graphics painting program that has been included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. It is often referred to as MS Paint or Microsoft Paint.
This is very simple to use, but doesn't offer best results. The lack of some tools and effectiveness makes it not recommended. But If you have to use it, this is the tutorial for you.

    TUTORIAL

    ►Open the Image

Go to File, then Open. A window will open where you will then select the Page/Image.

    ►Text tool selection and use

Select the text tool. It is located to the left of the Screen []. By selecting that tool, a bar will pop up, If you take a look at the bar, you will see other tools related to text. Eg. bold, italics, underline, alignments and the font selection etc.

    ►Adding Text

Click on the area you wish to add the text, hold, and create a box. IN that box, you may add the text. Remember not to go over the bubble. Change font size where necessary. However, moving the text around is a problem, when the text is placed, it's extremely difficult to move (since MS doesn't offer a free move feature).

    ►Saving and Uploading

Click File>Save As. Type the name you wish to save the entry as, be sure to select PNG from the drop down menu. To upload, visit an accepted image sharing website, such as imgur.com and upload. Right click and select copy IMG URL, then paste that URL between the [IMG] [ /IMG] tags.

Paintbrush is a simple paint program for Mac OS X, reminiscent of Microsoft Paint and Apple’s own now-defunct MacPaint. It provides users with a means to make simple images quickly, something that has been noticeably absent from the Mac for years. The lack of some tools and effectiveness makes it not recommended. But If you have to use it, this is the tutorial for you.

    TUTORIAL

    ►Open the Image

Go to File, then Open. A window will open where you will then select the Page/Image. Alternatively, you can simply drag the page/image from the internet straight into the paint brush application in your dock.

    ►Text tool selection and use

Select the text tool. It is (Usually) located to the left of the image you are working with, within the a tool bar. Select the text tool and then click on the image, a new window will pop up, this is were you will type in your text. Now you can change the text by choosing the font, size and various other features, just click "font" and another window will pop up, If you take a look at the window, you will see all your options.

You can also change the colour of the text, whilst in the text editor window, highlight the text and then choose a colour from the colour tool bar.

    ►Adding Text

After using the text tool above, by typing out your desired text and choosing the font, size and colour you can then click "place". Once you click place, you will see your text appear and it will follow your cursor, click to place the text in the desired speech bubble. I advise you not to make mistakes because this program is very awkward and does not let you move or edit the text once it is placed.
