New desktop pc need help booting

So I just finished building my new desktop.
I used some of the old parts I have, as well as ordered new parts.
One of the old parts I used was my old IDE HDD and IDE CD-ROM.
There only being 1 place to put the IDE cable on the motherboard, I have to use my HDD as Master and Slave. No problem there, I actually had the same problem with my old desktop and it worked just fine.

The old IDE HDD had Windows 7 installed on it, so I was hoping for, when I hooked it up to the new computer, I wouldn't have to do much, but to my despair, no windows was found on it. And it told me to insert boot media. So I *cough* downloaded *cough* bootable windows 7 and burned it onto a DVD as well as put it on a USB stick. When I insert the CD, it acts like nothing happened, like if I didn't even put a CD into it.

When I insert the USB stick, something happens, the "insert boot media" text doesn't appear, instead theres just a "-" and then it jumps down one line and nothing happens. Also, once I insert the USB, I am no longer able to detect the HDD in the BIOS :/

What to do? o_o Get new HDD? DVD-ROM? or?

Well if you used a flash drive and it still didn't work it sounds to me like both but I'm still in learning when it comes to computers as I'm only in 9 grade so I'm probably wrong

      Check all the cables.

And if that doesn't work then Google is your last hope.

Hrmmm I remember coming across an issue like this when I was training to be a Comp. Tech back in '10. But for the disk drive do you have it set right? (master or slave) that is a usual problem if it's actin' like that. As for the hdd, I am not usually too sure for that one, unless you accidentally knocked it around.

      Does it even load?

Not to be rude, but by thinking I haven't already done that, you are treating me like an idiot. I tried to Google, except that I don't know exactly what the problem is.

I've tried it both ways, Master and Slave.
When I do not have the USB in the PC, in the BIOS, when changing the boot priority, the Hard Drive shows up. But once I plug the USB, it's like the USB replaces the Hard Drive in the BIOS Boot priority.

Did you try accessing your boot menu and see if you could load your USB or cd from there?

Yes I tried that Same problem as before when it booted automatically.
I think it might actually be the harddrive. I'll get my sister to buy me a new one tomorrow (I'm at work so I won't have a chance to do it myself).

      Back up your files.
      Reinstall the OS.
Using an old hard drive from a different computer is fine as long as it's wiped clean. Otherwise you will be trying to load the old drivers.
Also, since you only have 1 IDE connector on your motherboard make sure the HDD is set to master and the cdrom is set to slave.
Double check your boot options in the bios. Some will have multiple HDD options like scsi, ide, etc.
After you're done fixing your computer call Dave and nag him to fix opb.

I got the motherboard from a friend. Anyway I bought a SATA HDD.
I think it's the IDE on the motherboard that is broken. It doesn't detect the CD-ROM either... nor does it react when I put a windows CD into and try all the different options in BIOS.
So I'm trying to install an OS on that HDD one using USB. The SATA HDD had options identifying the SATA HDD as different stuff, (IDE, RAID and ACHI or something like that. )
It was set on IDE on default, just wanted to make sure that was the one I was gonna use.

Same thing as last time, when I put a USB drive into the computer, in the BIOS, in the Boot Priority, I can only choose the harddrive or the USB. So I cannot have it like:
      1: USB
      2: HDD

      o_o Does it matter?

Got it from Pirate Bay?. Okay What I need you to go is by another IDE HDD then get a HDD duplicator. So It can copy all the info on your old HDD and put it on your new one. If for some reason it doesn't copy the windows 7 OS and put in on your new one. You have a CD to put it back on.

I got 1 IDE HDD and 1 SATA HDD. But as I said, the IDE in the motherboard seems to be broken. Also, I don't need anything from my old HDD, because it's just a gaming pc, so I dont have any personal stuff on it (well except for porn).

I just need to install Windows 7 OS on the new harddrive, on the new computer, using a USB. I'll do that when I get home tonight from work.

If the bios isn't detecting the cdrom or ide drive the 1st thing to check is the cable. Make sure you have the red stripe on the ide cable on the correct side. If it is and it still doesn't work, replace the cable. IDE ribbon cables are shit, and break a lot.
Tell me what bios you are using.

      American Megatrends Bios.
It's not the cable, I tried with another cable as well, and I put it the correct way.
