so now that gaara has reentered the storyline i have seen a couple posts about how gaara doesnt have his special ultimate defense sand. but here Naruto 249 page 02 | One Manga deidara states how the sand works, he doesnt have that sand because of the 1-tails, he has it because overtime he continually stores chakra in the sand, which makes it faster and stronger. so gaara doesnt need the 1-tails for his ultimate defense. so gaara still has his mastery over sand. oh and here is my prediction for gaara, i think that gaara has mastered the use of metal sand like the 3rd kazekage, and my reason being that kishi showed it to us in the sasori fight as a teaser of wat gaara's eventual evolution will be. and if you think about this evolution it is pretty logical to go from controlling sand wit chakra to controlling metal sand wit chakra. and since the villains are now becoming uber powerful it is going to take uber powerful good guys to win. and sorry but i dont see the rookie 12(exluding sasuke and naruto) becoming kage level any time soon. and if kishi wants to give naruto strong teammates i think they are gonna have to come from other villages. and i think that is where naruto's uber strong "be my friend" jutsu comes in. he has already befriended gaara and gaara will need to be even more powerful than he was, and thats where metal sand comes in. now as a super thin theory i think gaara and naruto will join the enka ninja that kirabi talked about. now both my theories are mere speculation but i feel like my explanation of gaara's sand is pretty spot on but i am open to others' opinions, let me know your opinions

It is a kekkie genkai but the kazekage saw the shukaku jinchurikis ability to use sand but the magnetic forces that allow it to be metal is somehting only he 3rd kazekage and his clan can use
You are right to say that the Iron Sand and Gaaras Sand Jutsu are related but unless You are right in saying that gaara is the 3rd kazekages grandson or something like that(which is possible, afte the 3rd was taken whas a good substitute for the time? His son the 4th than his son the 5th or gaara) than he cannot use iron sand, but it wouuld be awsome if he could

I say this all the time. TOO THOUGHT OUT.
1. Rookie 9.
2. Gaara has been using sand to fight since he was at least 3. If he had the Iron sand ability I am sure we'd know by now.
3. Gaara's sand is independant of his will. Kankuro says it, and when we see flashbacks of his past we see him trying to cut himself with a knife, but the sand protects him. This is because of the Shukaku not wanting him to die, cause otherwise Shukaku will die.
4. Gaara may have lost Shukaku, and still have the ability to control sand, but I think this is merely because Shukaku was in his body for so long that some of its abilities mixed with Gaaras. Since Gaaras chakra was used for this technique maybe the sand responds to his chakra.

there's one little error here and that is that no one said he lost the ability they say he lost the automatic shield of sand wich the shukaku controled and thats a disvantage because he now as to make it himself and waste time , chakra and focus on battle.
the part about naruto and gaara vs akatsuki i think ur right on that.
no he cant use metal sand thats uniq for the 3rd kazekage that had magnitic properties(and if he was able to use it i guess he would use it against deidara).
in terms of sand control i believe he as it all praticaly at the same level as before
