Biggest misconception is: "Tobi was afraid of itachi, thats why he didnt attack the village".... Really? What Manga was anybody who believe this reading? Let me list the real FACTS FROM THE MANGA!

Problem 1) He didn't anticipate Guys movements he just became intangible for a moment than positioned his arms to catch his weapon once it was already going through him.

Problem 2) Anything you say with Sasuke in it vs. Itachi is invalid as Itachi held back with everything in that fight. Every genjutsu, ninjutsu, and anything else he did in that fight was held back to be just a step below Sasukes so it would seem Sasuke won the battle. So Sasuke would have his redemption. This is a known fact.

Problem 3) Do you think Itachi would let Tobi suck him up in that hole? Name one high class ninja (A or S rank) that got caught into that? Konan doesn't count because she did it to commit suicide and kill Tobi with her.

Problem 4) Tobis entire fighting is his sharingan, you could say Itachi's is too & etc, etc. But who uses reg ninjutsu & taijutsu more? Tobi runs out of chakra first considering his entire fighting style is kamui this & s/t that. Your "facts from the manga" is how VIZ media interpreted that chapter. different interpretations can be used on that same chapter to say that Tobi is/isn't scared of Itachi.

Problem 4A) Itachi has yata mirror so if tobi decides to use ninjutsu it will have no affect while susano is on.

Problem 5) Itachis genjutsu is legendary, as I already stated he let sasuke break it, or in another term, didn't use it anywhere near full strength. Itachi suspected Tobi wants to use his genjutsu on the moon to complete his plan. So that means his eye is capable of putting all of the world in genjutsu if cast upon the moon.

Problem 6) Itachi has Totsuka Blade, Konan already told that Tobi can only be intangible for 5 minutes maximum. All Itachi has to do is keep up relentless attacks for 5 minutes then Totsuka blade him while hes recharging and is tangible.

Funny Thing - All of these 5 problems is while Itachis in his weakened sick regular state. That has no relevance here but just saying, don't kick him in the dirt as to say Obito will demolish him even if thats your opinion, just show Itachi some respect. If not love then at least respect.

Damn in the Op's dreams itachi has been shitted on so many times that, zetsu shouldve followed itachi more since zetsu has a infatuation with poo . I take it itachi breaking free from edo tensei, trolling other characters including the one who summoned him, but also going out by his own terms instead of somebody having the feat of sealing itachi has really pissed some people off. On a more serious note, you havent really done much in the op. Kamui is a very annoying technique however tobi has still been damaged in majority if not all of the duels he has been in, one way or another but also his opponent has grasped at least the basics of the technique. The basics of kamui is that in order for him to attack he has to solidify and this leaves him open for a brief moment. Minato, team kakashi, torune/fu all grasped the basics of kamui. I believe itachi has demonstrated enough intelligence both in and out of battle to warrant the idea that like these people he would figure out the basics at least. Some would say itachi clearly didnt figure this out (tobi's ability) and thats why his plan failed (sealing amaterasu in sasuke). However itachi isnt a fortune teller. In order to figure out an opponents ability he would either have to fight them or at least the opponent would have to demonstrate their ability to him. Tobi did none, there was never a fight. But also going by tobi's words when he said he hid alot from itachi what he is possible saying is that he had NEVER used kamui when itachi was in close proximity to him, unlike when he has done several times when konan was there and in the end konan nearly killed him so yes what tobi said is very much true about if itachi had info he could achieve on a similar scale what konan did or more.

Anyway if itachi grasps the basics he is favourite in my book. If he goes on to figure out that he has to solidify again to absorb himself, but also he takes longer to absorb others then, he becomes heavy favourite. However as konan said she wasnt sitting idle by tobi all this time, therefore whilst the basics of kamui is within reach the latter which she herself admitted that it was from info prior to the battle that led her to grasp this, itachi might not be able to grasp the latter, but im confident in the former.

Unlike others im more concerned about complete izanagi than kamui, because the basics of kamui is there for itachi to grasp. Whilst complete iznaagi would cause itachi trouble because it would take quiet alot of his chakra to do enough damage to tobi to use izanagai and tobi unforntunately doest sacrifice his kamui eye.

Tobi wasn't or will never be afraid to fight Itachi or any other member of Akatsuki. This has been shown as he was so confident to take on Kabuto even with the presence of the 5 strongest members of Akatsuki in front of him. This of course includes Edo-Itachi, Edo-Nagato, blah.. blah.. & so forth.. The fact that Tobi decided not to pursue on invading Konoha when Itachi was stil alive, doesn't necessarily mean or prove anything that he was intimidated by Itachi's power. There were reasons why he intends not to attack the village because:
1.) It was part of their arrangements, or as long as Itachi performs his tasks as an Akatsuki, their agreements were still honored.
2.) He wanted Itachi to die at Sasuke’s hand so he could manipulate Sasuke on his own way.
3.) Itachi joined Akatsuki in order to keep an eye on the organization. Thus, it could deteriorate most of Tobi's plan because Itachi could provide ample intel's to the rest of the villages about the Akatsuki's doings, goals & purposes, strategy, member's strengths & weaknesses or their jutsu's & capabilities.

Furthermore, Tobi seemed to be one-step ahead against Itachi. He knew the truth about him, the reasons why he wanted to die at Sasuke's hand, his real purpose of joining Akatsuki, & fooled him by letting him believed he was Uchiha Madara. Also, Itachi's plan for Sasuke failed only because of Tobi's intervention.

Hitherto, it was never stated in the manga that Tobi wished to kill or fight Itachi. However, one of Itachi's main goals is to kill Tobi. He even planted amaterasu in to Sasuke's eyes hoping it will eventually kill him.

So my conclusion, pre-rinnegan Tobi > ms Itachi. Itachi even believed that Tobi (a.k.a. Uchiha Madara during that time) was invincible & immortal. If he could actually kill him, he must have accomplished that a long time ago.

OT: People underestimates Tobi’s S/T often times. To every battle we’ve seen him fighting, he never had the intention to kill. His plan is to capture or warp them in to his dimension & perhaps gain control of them through genjutsu as we witnessed what happened to Fu & Torune. Even when he fought Konan, he could not kill him first because he wanted to know Nagato’s whereabouts. Imagine what will happen if he goes for instant kill, he could aim for their heart. Thus, making his S/T a “one-shot jutsu”!

Edo-Itachi will shit on him since he will be granted with unlimited chakra & undying body, but alive-Itachi will be defeated 8 out of 10. But of course since Itachi is so much love in this site, many people will deny this matter over & over again!

I'll also add, there's literally nothing which can defend against Obito's Kamui considering it is simply a variation of the one possessed by Kakashi. You would need to actively do something just to halt the process; for example, use a paperbomb and force Obito to stop the jutsu. While one can avoid the effects of this jutsu (whether it be by their own skill or incompetence by the user, as seen here and here), it has become increasingly evident in this manga that such a jutsu can only be countered by ridiculous speed (Hiraishin), an unpractical amount of prep time & knowledge on Obito's abilities or a combination of S/T ninjutsu & power (since it took the combined efforts of Kakashi, Naruto and Killer B just to inflict damage to Obito) - none of which Itachi possesses. It can be generally accepted that a user who has mastered Kamui therefore possesses a lethal offensive technique - and in Obito's case, the saying 'attack is the best form of defence' holds especially true. I actually feel that it would be near suicidal for Itachi to use Susanoo if we factor in the derogatory effects it has on his body and the simple fact that it is within Obito's powers to move through the earth (with him being a pseudo-Zetsu shinobi) and simply appear from under a Susanoo which is lacking an underneath (unlike, say, Madara's Susanoo which has legs). Kidnapping Itachi then becomes relatively easy, with Obito only sustaining an injury because he touched Torune's toxic skin (note, Torune was unable to actively defend himself from such a swift attack).

There is no way in hell Tobi will fear Itachi/Nagato as the manga clearly stated that he is so confident to take on KabutoMaru even in front of the 5 strongest members of Akatsuki. It was never stated in the manga that Tobi want to kill / fight Itachi, However, it was very obvious that Itachi wished Tobi to die. There was an agreement between the two that's why Tobi left Konoha "off limits' while Itachi supports Akatsuki's goal by requiring his chakra to unseal the tailed beast to their host & contained the same to the gedo-mazou. All Tobi wanted was Itachi to die at the hands of Sasuke so he could easily manipulate him. Tobi uses Akatsuki for his advantage & not the other way around. Tobi will never be outsmarted by Itachi, or he would have done that a long time ago. Last time I checked, it was Tobi who clearly outsmarted Itachi by deceiving him that he was the invincible Madara.

as we all know, tobi cannot be touched by physical attacks but itachi is know for his genjutsu that surpasses everyone else's (except shisui from what we have heard). genjutsu isnt a physical attack so even if tobi makes himself un touchable, one look into itachi's eye and its all over.
