As Nodt, as well as all the other Quincy, only got the upper hand after stealing their opponent's Bankai. Basically, Byakuya fought against the power of As Nodt and the entirety of his own Bankai.

This is exactly why Kenpachi was lucky. He has no Bankai to begin with. He didn't have to fight against a Captain-class opponent stacked with his own power.
