Edo Hidan wouldn't have been a waste.
We all know that Hidan was immortal, and that edo tensei's main ability is to revive and give and immortal body, but Hidan is already immortal so?
Here is where Edo Hidan would have been pretty cool. In the past Hidan required Kakuzu to attach Hidan's body together, but how about if now that Hidan is an edo, he decides to stab himself all he wants and eventually edo tensei will cover all those holes or in less words "make kakuzu's work".
In my opinion it would have been pretty overpowered agaisn't powerful shinobis (not high tiers such as kages, naruto, bee), but maybe a good match for kakashi, gai, darui and any other shinobi around that level.

Isn't Hidan still alive though? Like, he's at the bottom of the pit Shikamaru trapped him in, and since he's immortal, he's just stuck there.

Hidan is still alive, and I'm pretty sure that he's just talking to imaginary friends.

that's a pretty sad end.... being stuck in the midst of the ground with nothing to do.... my god, that's real punishment (no sarcasm intended)

He's not alive, he isn't truly "immortal" he can not be killed but could die from malnutrition. Unless he is getting nutrients from the ground like a plant does then Hidan is definitely dead

He would get taken care of, easily. Hidan hasn't showed any ranged jutsu. His moveset is based on 1 person only. It also takes a little time to form his little self suicide circle. He would get overwhelmed by fodders.

Those laws won't apply to Hidan, hence Kakuzu reataching his limbs which were once severed. Which were completely re-useable after dispite it being severed. If what you say were true then his limbs which were severed shouldn't have been re-usable.
