Shikamaru is a sub character, but hes underated as hell.Hes smart with his tactical decisions, and can turn a disadvantage into a advantage.and hes developed his shadow technique into many forms. He is definitly Anbu material. He was chosen at one time to become a guardian but he passed it down. Shikamaru is one powerful ninja.Able to subdue many enemies at once seen here:
Shikamaru is one of my favs for sure because of his shadow technique. it could be used as a "ultimate defense" as well because he can manipulate many shadow strings at once. seen here:
i dont think they made shikamaru as strong as he really could be!.

He's suuuper smart I'll give you that, but since countering the Shadow techniques is pretty simple (by simply avoiding them) people don't really consider him to be too strong. Sure, he has found ways to make it work but there is a limit to how much you can accomplish just by being smart and using shadows. I mean, Shikamaru couldn't hold Hidan for more than a couple of minutes, so the more powerful characters of the story should be able to break out of it pretty easily. + most of his opponents (the Genin girl from the Hidden Sound, Temari, that sound 4 girl, Hidan, The Gold brothers) have been people who are way to confident with themselves, and just charge in insted of using a strategy.
Not trying to make Shikamaru look bad, he's always been one of my favourites, but we have to face the facts, most of the more powerful characters won't get cought in the Shadow Jutsu, and even if they are, most of them will be able to get out of it quite easily.
