When did Madara CHOOSE Obito?

In the latest chapter where Obito is using Mokutun, Zetsu says it was no wonder why Madara 'chose' him. We know that Obito managed to survive the boulder and and the Zetsu's retrieved him and took him to the liar. My question is when did Madara 'choose' Obito. The way the previous manga chapters made it seem like it was all coincidence and not planned at all, especially considering Madara didn't know how Obito manged to survive the boulder. However, If Madara did choose Obito before the crush, he's not much of a master planner seeing as he didn't even know Obito would survive.

Is Madara a dumbass? Thoughts?

My only explanation is that Madara had been looking for someone to help with his plan (could have sent Zetsu around searching for young or dying Uchiha or something).

But even that's a bit farfetched. To me it seems like a coincidence, though a very convenient one. I guess we can only wait to see what is revealed later on (?).

Yeah, I would go along with the idea that Madara decided to heal Obito ("chose" him) since he was a young, impressionable, half-dead Uchiha. If he was some useless ninja from another clan Madara would have disposed of him.

Madara probably noticed the space-time technique that happened with Obito when he was crushed in that rock and decided that it is a special gift and could mean something very useful for him (Madara). In Chapter 602, Madara did say that Obito just appeared in his underground passage from nowhere as if he slipped through something. Madara probably thought that not all Uchihas have the Kamui and so Obito became special.

It was coincidence that Obito landed in Madara's lair but the reason why Madara chose Obito was because he was young, experienced pain and seemed to be useful. Just like Oro sought Sasuke, the reasons are similar.

Zetsu said 'I can see why Madara choose you' after seeing his abilities. Madara didn't even know Obito could use kamui and the only reason he 'choose him' was because he was found in the underground passage and was an Uchiha. Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me.

you can also ask "When did Madara CHOOSE Nagato?" do you think madara will give his eyes to some random person?...maybe he already check the background of the person he CHOOSE who will use his rinnegan.. there's something special with nagato and maybe that's not coincidence that he gave his eyes to nagato... I think it is also same with obito he CHOOSE obito like he did to nagato...this is only my guess..

Thats a whole other issue lol. Kishi hasn't given us a flashback yet but Madara must have given his eyes to a very young Nagato which is absurd if you ask me.

he saw he was still young.. so he could brainwash his brain and use him , and he saw some potential in him, i mean he is MADARA after all,

Not necessarily. It would've been a test. If he was strong enough to survive, than it was good for his plan, if not, than he'd be searching for another Uchiha.

About the Zetsu, I have to be honest, don't know what to say. But for sure he was around.
Now for the time... as long as he was connected to Hashirama's power source, he was ok.
Probably he disconnected himself when he trusted Obito enough to make the plan come true.
