we know that the 9 tailed foxed was summoned my madaraa.. so what does that mean about the rest of the tailed beast? were they summoned also? or were they just there to begin with?

thats what i think too. madara and shodaime tamed them, but they were constantly on one place.

the beasts aren't really beasts in a sens. the are made of pure chakra. In that way I supposee they could be called or summoned but you need something like a bood pact for example or how madara did it cause he has the sharingan. however we do not know for sure so this is pure speculatioon
however you must remember that the frogs can be summoned and they actually exist so even summonings do not need to be summoned to exist

Maybe they were something the Sage of Six Paths created .. the Sage of Six Paths traveled around spreading ninjutsu as a form to teach people how to protect themselves. Maybe the Sage also created the beasts to be the guardians of each country/village or w/e. He supposedly created the Moon, so maybe he knew his time was comming he created the beasts for people to use in their time of need for protection. Like KillerBee said .. he'd been stuck in his village all of his life because he was a host. And hosts apparently are the guardians for their specific villages. That's my take on it anyway.:D

they only guard their countries(or at least some of them do) becasue the frst hokage spread them to each village to balance the power

i don't summoned the kyuubi in the usual meaning, but more he controlled it so that it would attack konoha. other then that i don't believe the bijuu's can't be summoned since they are made of a massive amount of chakra and would need someone insanly strong to summon them. Shodaime was able to control them because he had a special technique or ability that allowed him too...

I know that the 1-Tailed beast is the spirit of a old man that was sealed inside of a jar.

I believe that this soul consumes the power of each Jinchurriki and grows everytime that it transfers hosts. This is just my theory though.

Therefore... the 1-Tailed beast isn't summoned, but rather released from its prison....

that person was the last one to have the beast. it could have been free before it was in any host at all but like I said we just don't know yet
