What if the man is actually Isshin? Ichigo's father, he seem strong enough to 1hit-KO a damaged sternritter, and he as a usual zampakuto (not any weird design or anything)

Very intriguing thought. Ashido was actually intended to be introduced into the manga but Kubo was never able to fit him into the story. Thus, he ended up sending Ashido's character concept to the animators and they created the "Forest of Menos" filler arc for him. Originally Posted by Roju
