Re: C-Spain Talk of Legalizing Marijuana
Prohibition (a time when Alcohol became illegal to purchase) was successful for only a few years after an increase in smuggling alcohol took a peak and then was overturned with the repealing of the 18th Amendment. It wasn't successful then, it won't be now.
As far as Marijuana? Eh, I honestly don't think people will like being taxed for something they got all these years without tax, but it would have an impact on the economy. So that's where my opinion ends.
Edit: And they are talking about decriminalizing of Marijuana more seriously, not making it legal straight away.

Re: C-Spain Talk of Legalizing Marijuana
I don't smoke weed, but from what I hear people who do would be unhappy
cause the government would put taxes on it. De-legalizing alcohol would probably
make people resort to drinking mouthwash & rubbing alcohol or something..

Re: C-Spain Talk of Legalizing Marijuana
Idk how weed is bad. Alcohol causes death just saying. Taxes would suck but their wouldn't be a reason to get trouble smokin it if it's legalized

Re: C-Spain Talk of Legalizing Marijuana
Honestly if they were to legalize Weed it would be a huge boost to our economy. All the billions of dollars that go to the cartels as an underground economy would help us out alot by getting rid of the cartels source of income and bringing financial stability to the country.

Wow...when will the government realize that it shouldn't be making things legal or illegal at all...it has no jurisdiction over what someone does to themselves.

I'm all for legalizing weed (even though i don't smoke), As for de-legalizing alcohol, Meh.
I would rather people smoke weed than drink alcohol, many lives and familys would be saved.

Unfortunately it wouldn't be a huge loss to the cartels. The cartels would still smuggle Marijuana into the country because it would be cheaper to smuggle it in than to get the money from the government tariffs.

@AnimusOra
But taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, etc only make up 2% of our revenue.
That would be like saying if weed was legalized/taxed and it combined made 3% of our revenue, it would take 30 years for us to destroy our debt.
That's not a recovery.

Well...I'm not sure you understand how many people smoke weed. I live in Kentucky, and the unofficial #1 export for Kentucky is marijuana. People think California has the "good stuff", but that's because we sold it to them. Also, not only is the constitution printed on hemp paper, but the US is practically built off of marijuana, it's how we really started this country. Now it's illegal? That's like saying the bald eagle should be hunted down to extinction. No, it's worse than that because we owe the country to this one plant. Marijuana should be the symbol for the US.

Re: C-Spain Talk of Legalizing Marijuana
Alcohol won't be criminalized again. Way too much money in it, and it just wouldn't work.
Marijuana should be legalized. It would become a big market, has less health risks than alcohol, and will decrease wasted tax dollars that go towards the "war on drugs" while helping depopulate our overpopulated prisons. There honestly is no down side to it, its just restricted by crabby old men and women who don't understand what they're talking about.
