If everything is entered correctly then reinstalling the OS on the phone will fix it. That and make sure you have the latest updates.

      UPDATING
      Settings-About phone-system updates.

If the settings are up to date then reinstalling the OS might be your only option. (Fair warning though you will lose all your data like contacts, games, pictures, videos, music so make sure to back it up or put it on your computer VIA USB cable and/or micro sd adapter.)

      RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS
      Settings-privacy-Factory data reset.

That will set it back to manufacturers settings. If the phone still cannot connect then the phone has a defective WIFI chip installed and should be returned or just use the 3g/4g service that is in your area.

Then since your updates were fully installed, without them there's an issue I can only think of two things.

Your phone can't handle your routers encryption methods(highly unlikely in this day and age) or the wifi chip is done. I'm leaning towards the second one. Depending on how expensive the phone is I would just return assuming its within 14 days(average return time for electronics), call in the warranty if its still valid, or just get another phone. Do you mind telling me your phone in regards to the name of it?

Apparently galaxies tend to these issues.

      (try this first)
There is another solution and that is to try to use the Allshare play app, apparently when it loads it asks you which network you want to use and clicking on yours makes the phone work on your network again.

If that doesn't work well your screwed in regards to ever using the wifi outside of your house. Now some things you might want to do before you do this solution.

1: Enable DHCP on your router if it is then ignore this.
2: Disable Static IP on your phone if it is then your completely screwed for getting wifi networks outside of your living conditions.

How to fix the issue using static IP. (this will only work for your home)

(Make sure your phone is fully updated before doing this to help ensure success)

This is not from me but from http://androidforums.com/samsung-gal...s-problem.html

      Go to Settings >

      Wi-Fi >

press on your connection for a second, a pop up will appear with the options "forget network" and "modify net configuration" >

select - modify net configuration >

select - show advanced options >

      minimise the keyboard >

      select - IP settings >

      Select - Static

Now enter the settings below (make a note of the ones already there in case you want to change back)

      IP - 192.168.1.253 or 195.168.1.253

      Gateway - 195.168.1.1

      NPL - 24

      Netmask - 255.255.255.0

      DNS 1 - 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8

      DNS 2 - 4.4.4.4

      And save.

Press the Home button and now try to connect.

Good luck hope it works because I don't even completely understand static IP addresses and I was a cell phone technician lol

There is rumor that freeing up ram space will make the wifi work. If you hold the home button and go to task manager, there is a RAM manager which you can free ram by stopping apps from currently running. Some people have success with that. Other then that I really have no idea. If you have the option I would return it despite it being such an amazing phone. You can always check for a homebrew patch to fix the issue as well online.

Re: Android Wifi Obtaining IP address issue

Why not manually update your phone by rooting it and installing a rom? I got my android from 2.2 to android 4.1 and most of the bugs it had disappeared. Im sure it would help you as well. Other than that, I dont really know sorry :/
