Just because the Sage was victorious against the Juubi doesn't mean that he was more poweful than it.
Minato beat Kurama with a sealing jutsu, but if he were to fight the kyuubi with force and combat, Minato would've died undoubtedly.
Only the Third Raikage should recieve praise for defeating a bijuu, being that he went toe-to-toe with the Hachibi instead of using cheap sealing techs.
