Seven States qualify for Secession Review
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...8AD1TA20121114
What do you guys think of this? Obviously the state's chances of actually separating from the union is next to zero, what does this say about the happiness of the Union?
UPDATE: The city of Austin, Texas has filed a counter-petition to secede from Texas in order to remain in the US. Next thing you know a neighborhood in Austin will want to secede from Austin to remain part of Texas.

Even Florida has the necessary signatures and it's electoral votes went to Obama, but they do feel like their rights are being suppressed so they have the right to speak.

I'm certain it won't happen, but the fact that this is happening again after 150 years says something about our situation here in the US.

Ya, Austin Is Not The Brightest City In Texas, In Fact, It's Probably The Most Liberal, If Anyone Doesn't Want To Succeed With Texas, They Can Move To A Northern State

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
The fact that its happening again just means the Southern states are just as stupid as they ever were. What happened last time? 600,000 citizens died and the South got a beating and wasn't allowed to vote for about a decade. So all they'd do is get their ass beat by a black president this time and it would kinda ironic. Besides some of the states that wanna leave are Kansas and Alabama which are the two dimbest, the two poorest, the two least productive states in the union. They take the most money from the Federal Gov. to support their states cause they are broke as ****. If they became their own countries they'd be so poor America, Mexico and Canada would gave to give them aide anyways.

This time it isn;t just about State loyalty though, it's about big government vs individual rights. You'd get a lot more people willing to fight against a big federal government in my eyes.

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
This stuff means absolutely nothing. Had this been back in the 1800's when getting that many signatures on a petition was meaningful, sure, but in today's age you can start an internet petition and get thousands of signatures for literally anything.
The thing is most of these signatures have nothing to do with liberties vs. big government, most of them are just bitter people who didn't want to see another 4 years of Obama. Not saying that's all of them, but its definitely most of them.

It is not the same as in the past. The south do not have less military like last time.

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
^ It's obvious Texas has more military than back in the 1800's BUT SO do the North because population of humen race IS WAY HIGHER than it was back in the 1800's so that advantage is gone
Also the North had more military partly because of other southeners and the blacks back then
If you been to Texas like I did when I visited family racism is EVERYWHERE
Yeah it's not like last time demographics have changed ALOT more blacks, asians, hispanics, latino's etc than back in the 1800's
Also a little over 40% percent voted democrats this time in Texas which keeps increasing every year
Experts say Texas would go Blue in 2016 or 2020

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
Technically the states are supposed to be individual nations anyway kinda'. The federal government is something that was added to help try and control them. However, the fed was just supposed to be unity, they actually have no right to make laws, or at least they weren't supposed to make laws for individuals I don't think.

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
I took a look at the Texas petition and saw the words ''balanced budget'' cmon Texas gotta lie in your petition
I remember a report from the National State Legislatures saying Texas needed to use over 80 percent of federal stimulus funds to balance their budget last year So Texas I don't see why you hate the federal government to much even though they are helping you big time
In my newspaper I read, The lawmakers in Texas are cutting 31 billion in spending on schools, medicaid, social security, and colleges to balance their budget I think you guys know what happens when you cut off billions on the things I listed above.

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
On the bit about the military, the military power in Texas isn't that big of a percentage compared to the rest of the US. But then you have to factor in who is loyal to the state or ideals they deem correct, there would be a bit of chaos on both sides, brothers fighting brothers and all. I don't foresee this happening, and I also think that social media is the reason why this is growing to be such a big ordeal. It probably originated from a Facebook post about some pissed off Texan that escalated.
~Crow out.
Edit: the best way I think that they should go about this stupidity is to have a nice chat around a fire have a couple brewskies and afterwards fisticuffs for the next president. Ok maybe no fisticuffs, but this really shouldn't be as big a deal as most are trying to make it. So what Obama got voted back in, if he does fine he does fine. If not then America will vote accordingly next time around. My ninja way is "Don't Panic, if it can be helped do so, if not let the chips fall where they may". Sorry for the long edit.

Re: Seven States qualify for Secession Review
^ Texas didn't get it's own way for who would be president so they want to pack their toys and leave the union trying to drag over 25 million people with them
