Ha Sasuke may be smarter than Naruto in battle, but please don't try and throw Minato in there too! He fights in instants, that takes brains and he figured Obito out in like one exchange...Itachi seems like the type to normally have a plan going into a fight and he never really changes it.

I think Itachi has a fairly negligible advantage over Minato in intelligence, and Sasuke's superior intelligence over Naruto is counteracted by his emotional outbursts that make him behave illogically at times.

The single battle against a worthy opponent we've seen Minato involved in has him reacting quickly and well to anything his extremely unconventional opponent does. He doesn't require time to think, yet he doesn't make mistakes and takes his opponent down without having to resort to more than 3 things (speed, Rasengan and FTG) possibly five if you count making sure the Kyuubi (the Kyuubi!) doesn't harm the village any more than he allows it to (Time/Space Barrier and teleporting foreign objects, i.e. the Kyuubi [TELEPORTING the Kyuubi!] which may just be FTG anyway).

If anything Itachi displays poorer battle tactics than Minato though people don't seem to notice for some reason. His fights are all against ninja of a more 'normal' type than Obito, as you can hit them when you attack them and allowing them to touch you for a SINGLE second doesn't result in losing the battle. He also makes errors in judgement even in his first on-panel engagement (having to degrade your eyesight and stress a sick body using Tsukuyomi doesn't suggest that you're dominating a battle as easily as people seem to think) and given that Minato, while surely having made other errors, does NOT have ANY moments in his battle against a dimension-warping foe and his pet nine-tailed fox-demon which can be termed "mistakes", at least not ones he doesn't immediately fix.

You are wrong, no shinobi alive is smarter than Minato in battle. Think about it, he planned the survival of the ninja world with just one brief fight with Obito and the Kyuubi. He recognized that the world would be in danger without his only son having control of the Kyuubi's power before even seeing his son's fighthing style or power. But I am with you that Itachi is one of the smartest fighter in the manga, but he is second to Minato
