physics question?
im not very good in physics but maybe some of you are. so i had a thought earlier and hoping someone can help me with it?
if the earth suddenly just stopped spinning (minus the global catastrophes) would everyone suddenly fall to the ground?
so you're on a skateboard and rolling pretty fast, your wheels hit a rock and the skateboard suddenly stops. the momentum of the skateboard throws you to the ground. the earth is like the skateboard spinning at great speeds and suddenly stops and the momentum of the earth will throw us to the ground? i remember from physics class that energy is transferable so i thought it might be true, but i dont know if the logic from the skateboard would apply to the earth

Re: physics question?
If it suddenly stopped then everything would continue moving (in the direction the earth was spinning) at around 1600 km/h.

Re: physics question?
Because of inertia (if the world magically stops immeadiately) I believe we would go flying at a velocity tangental the worlds rotation. In other words it should be the resultant vector at the instant before it stops rotating ( not including the vector from the earh's revolution since you haven't said its stopped revolving. At least this is what I think.

Fortunately, it'll be so fast I won't even feel pain.

Re: physics question?
from physics small object are attracted to very large object depending on the distance btw them (newtons law of gravitation ) the earth mass is >>>>>>>>> than you but your mass is greater than the skateboard also the earth is not spinning with a great speed therefore, you wont fall to the ground it the earth stops rotating.

Re: physics question?
If the Earth stopped spinning suddenly, the atmosphere would still be in motion with the Earth's original 1100 mile per hour rotation speed at the equator. All of the land masses would be scoured clean of anything not attached to bedrock. This means rocks, topsoil, trees, buildings and so on, would be swept away into the atmosphere and so will you obviously
The possibility for this to actually happen is close to zero percent in the next few billion years

No, that's silly, but she told me to come back later, she's in her bedroom w/ the plumber...it sounds like they're wrestling or something. Don't worry, I'll just ask my dad, he just go home.
