I hate to give the cliche answer but Jiraiya. He was just so close to both naruto and such a beloved character. Not that asuma wasn't, but Jiraiya was such a popular character. He was the guy you never thought would die

I know. I only chose Asuma because I didn't think he was that important to be killed off. Still a cool character though.

I guess the most shocking was Asuma's... It practically said no one can be too safe, and it was really sudden. When Asuma made the final dodge you were like yes!!!! But then you saw how it was in Hidan's stomach and you were like Awwwwwwww nooo...
Everyone else seemed certain. Itachi vs Sasuke, Jiraiya vs Pain, and the almost Hinata vs Pain

for me there is no shocking deaths coz kishi always give us hints when a character will die...
like jman and asuma... b4 they die its like a whole chapter or 2 is all about flashback... for me its a hint that a character will die.. so it would not shock me or suprise me anymore... but still its emotional ...
