? for pokemon fans

i'm not really a pokemon fan seeing as how i stopped watching the series after johto, which was quite a few yrs back but i do however play the games seeing as how there always good :D

so my question is why is gyarados considered a flying type and capable of learning flying type moves when he can't fly
and why isn't he considered a dragon yet kingdra is when he's a sea horse :confused:

Cus back then the pokemon that were considered dragons was so so limited and they couldnt just go and say oh yea this is a dragon type, and after they had already decided that it was a water flying they couldnt just go and change the its type around, when they made kingdra i dont think being a dragon type was such a big deal anymore. gyarados can be taught bounce through the tutor though but thats the only flying move he could learn.

Because back in Gen 1 if he was water and dragon he'd be basically unstoppable type wise, same reason why Charizard isn't fire dragon.

Because the Structure of Gen 1 was that Dragonite and his Pre-eves are the only dragon types just like how Gengar and his were the only Ghost Types and they wanted to keep it the same. Changing a pokemons type from one fusion to another changes its usefulness a lot so it would seem awkward especially for a first gen pokemon.

I actually wondered this a while back and this is the answer that makes the most sense. Water/Dragon Gyarados would be ridiculous. His attack stat is ridiculously high and if he didn't have the weakness of electric type only other dragon types would be able to take him down.

i stated that they were sea horses man, and a sea horse is not a dragon which i was trying to make clear
