Re: Why does Kishi keep trying to humanize the villains?

Because people are complicated creatures and most of the time they have reason for behaving the way they do.
Almost nothing is completely white or black - most are situated in the grey area.

That's what Kishimoto-sensei tries to show: that even the most vile villain has a reason for behaving like that and that nothing is as easy as it seems

You should check out the story of Ivan the Terrible. He was a great leader of his country, then his wife died and he went Psycho and proceeded to butcher his people.

It's been this way since part 1 bro. Only person who's a villain without a good reason is Orochimarou.

Re: Why does Kishi keep trying to humanize the villains?

The villains with a back story are a lot more interesting than those who just want to rule/destroy the world for no good reason. The other reason is to contrast them with the good guys to show that a lot of it comes down to a choice. The main good guys and the villains both had trauma and loss. It's the choice they made on dealing with these that defines them (similar to Harry Potter theme, I guess). Nagato and Naruto especially were set up to contrast in this way, as two children of prophecy, where one chooses evil and the other good.

So that we can relate to what their thoughts are behind their actions to have a reason as to why they're being so evil silly!

Because this isn't DBZ,villians don't just want to destroy the world for fun and eat candy on the side.

I would like to agree with that, and i think its true in most cases, however Hitler had literally no reason other than he thought some group he didnt even belong to was pretty. Also i dont know much about vlad the impaler and he couldve had something bad happen to him, however having something bad happen to him doesnt match up with anything he did such as impaling people through their asses and drinking their blood. I'd beleieve you if you said something could happen to someone with reason that could make them kill that many people, but not in the ****ed up ways vlad did it, and hitler completely disproves your theory that everyone had a reason(he was jewish, and he wasnt even german).

i understand what you mean, but he is just explaining the circumstances and the events that made the characters who they are so all the people you mentioned were good at base (they started good and their intentions are good).
this series has only one true selfish pure evil villain that i like the most and that is OROCHIMARU and believe me ..... even kishi can't humanize the bastard, oro will die EVIL (thats why he is the best)

Re: Why does Kishi keep trying to humanize the villains?

I'd love to see more background to Madara. There has to be more than that boring cocky guy. Even he must have true goals and ambitions that are beyond world domination. Such villains are really boring and flat. They wouldn`t fit Kishi`s style of making decent characters. It`s not just some video game from the 80s. That`s why.
