but now your talking about the value of the shinobi (how important the shinobi is). tsunade is just as important as oro and jiraiya but she is mainly a medic so she is not as strong or as effective as they are in combat

But orochimaru is stronger than him.. Orochimaru and tsunade are immortals, all jiraiya had was sage mode and a huge arsenal of jutsus.

If you combine tsunade and jiraiya you would actually get orochimaru..

Jiraiya is awesome. All the feats he has shown are absolutely amazing (as detailed in the original post) and we can be sure that we did not see them all. This shinobi was on a whole different level in both techniques and character!

Sure, Orochimaru has developed techniques to be able to heal all his wounds and stay alive via "horcrux" seals, but Jiraiya can f*cking force himself back to life with his sheer will and then die with honor like a true shinobi

On a serious note (OMG, we're talking about an anime/manga - what level of seriousness should/could one put into it? Whatever!)

To me, it greatly depends on how to compare and define strength.
I still have the feeling that Orochimaru "cheats". He uses all kinds of nasty jutsu, dirty tricks and scumbagness. His main power, as far as I believe, lies in his intelligence. Here, he's superior to both Jiraiya and Tsunade, although none of them could be considered dumb or unintelligent.

Jiraiya is just awesome due to pure awesomeness, hard work and (developed) talent. He's the closest you'd get to mention a "cheat" with him, would be when he summons Fukasaku and Kaachan (what's her name?), or some of the large battle toads, as that is lent power. Yet, I this more as cooperation rather than cheating.

Tsunade... she's a beast, but as mentioned, not tactical enough. Too emotional. However, he has supreme skills in chakra control, making her the extraordinary medical ninja she is. I see her Souzou Saisei (regeneration) jutsu as more of a cheat than Jiraiya's, but still legit. Her jutsu are more oriented towards defense rather than offense. But boy, does she do that well! Her attacks are mostly taijutsu, but not refined like Gai's.

The second he faced the ACTUAL offense team, he lost an entire arm and the fight there and then. He only prolonged it foolishly and brutally lost to Asura alone. He faced petra, human, and Animal Path. The former are almost useless in offense mode and human even more so as it can do nothing without touching the opponent. The only offensive one he faced was animal path and he high-tailed out to go into SM mode when he couldn't get around his ampification technique and only managed to do something then.

Deva path alone makes up for 80% of Pain's power - 90% for high tier Jutsus - as any higher tier jutsu - large scaled or more powerful shinra tensai and Chibaku tensai - either requires him to complete shut off all the other paths - Chibaku tensai - or it results in severe slump in the other paths recovery - high tier shinra tensai. So Jiriya only faced about 5% of Pain's path, accomplished little and died quickly when he faced Asura.

Orochimaru is clearly more powerful than him. As both him and Tsunade with an intent to kill couldn't take out a complete incapacitated Orochimaru who was on his last leg of his immortality jutsu. He is clearly the most powerful sanin out of all three.

I never understood how people think he put up a fight against pein.....If all 6 paths were present fighting him at one time he would have been utterly slaughtered... In fact, deva and another can solo him... Deva alone if he uses his big guns like chibaku tensei etc..
