[News] Law banning gay 'conversion therapy' put on hold by judge.

A federal judge has issued a temporary injunction on California's ban on "conversion" therapy -- a method some say can help turn a gay person straight.

The first of its kind in the United States, the state ban was intended to prevent young people under 18 from undergoing the controversial treatment. It would have gone into effect January 1.

The therapy techniques described in that lawsuit included having participants strip naked in group sessions, cuddling and intimate holding of others of the same sex, violently beating an effigy of their mothers with a tennis racket, visiting bath houses "in order to be nude with father figures," and being "subjected to ridicule as '******s' and 'homos' in mock locker room scenarios." Some psychologists insist conversion therapy is dangerous to patients, and say it simply does not work.

U.S. District Judge William Shubb ruled Monday that the ban Gov. Jerry Brown signed earlier this year could offend the First Amendment rights of therapists to express their opinions about homosexuality. Three plaintiffs filed the suit, arguing that the ban was unconstitutional.

The plaintiffs are a licensed marriage and family therapist who is also an ordained minister; a medical doctor and board-certified psychiatrist who works with people over 16 years old; and a man who was sexually attracted to other men but who wanted to practice conversion therapy to "help" men like him.

Earlier this year, Brown tweeted about the measure to ban conversion therapy on minors.

"This bill bans non-scientific 'therapies' that have driven young people to depression and suicide," the governor tweeted. "These practices have no basis in science or medicine."

REally? Some suggest that hormonal levels at the prenatal stage (regardless the sex) determines your sexual preference.
There's no conclusive study on either of the statements tho.

IF the methods are truly as mentioned then it wouldnt be a good think but there shouldnt be a law that would stop a homo from seeking possible help to become a hetero. Im sure that if there was a clinic or some thing to turn a hetero into a homo then there would be no issues. because a lot of the time the arguement is one sided...but that doesnt matter....simply i dont think that the method for doing it was right, but if a homo wants to try to be a hetero, through therapy then he should be allowed. The law is restricting some freedom.


But my opinion NOBODY is born gay. They may be born with some hormone imbalances or stuff like that that may INFLUENCE them to become gay later in their life. But they have the choice, and most of the people who become gay do so from how they were raised, and their environment. Saying someone is born gay is like saying someone is born a muderer, rapist, pedophile etc. They might be born with an influence to become gay but that is it. The idea of a gay gene is absurd. There may be a gene that most gay people have, that affects hormones and stuff, but there is no gene that just makes someone gay. Think of it like someone saying there is a suicide gene. There isnt.there may be a gene that causes hormone imbalances and creates severe depression.


BUt i reread what you said the therapy did. It sounds more like it is converting people TO BECOME GAY(or at least strengthen the persons gay orientation). I mean holding a member of the same sex intimately? How is that going to make them straight.

Hey bro read the article more carefully. The people were SEEKING HELP. They were not being forced. But i think the method was stupid to do so. If a guy wakes up and wants to become gay and stimulated by other men then he should be able to seek help to make him gay, just like if a gay man wants to like and be stimulated by women, he should be allowed to turn straight. The method used from what i can tell would only help make someone get gay tendencies....not turn them straight. I mean holding another man intimately? Doesnt sound like something designed to turn someone straight. Simply the law is illegal. The person under going the therapy, should be allowed to choose to have the therapy if he wishes.....there should only be a law that stops a person from being forced to undergo therapy like that.

The whole situation is to risky. And even then there may be some hardassment issues involve and it's a really hefty case there. How it would work...it won't.

The way I see it, there's only one cure for gays...let's take a lesson from Sodom and Gomorrah. We actually get the word sodomy from sodom. Something went wrong while replying to you Kuri so i edited this post. Anyway I don't care if they would get rocks thrown at them or if they live free. They really dont mean anything to me and what happens to gay people. There is one kid in mine high school and he is openly gay and he gets bullied evryday he now even went to another school and i did t care about him.
