Its already been confirmed that minato was the 3rd coffin, and kabuto already admitted and said that he and oro didnt no that being sealed in the reaper you cant be brought back as a edo. waste of thread close it thanks

Minato couldn't have been the third coffin. He used the reaper death seal on himself. Once somebodies sealed they can't be brought back, unless Kishimoto made a mistake.

I don't really think that that's how it was though I don't completely disagree with it either. It would've made more sense if he was trying to revive all the previous Hokages to fight Hiruzen while Hiruzen's emotions hinder him since they were all his friends.

I wouldn't be surprised if your theory does come to happen or is proven to be true later. It's entirely possible but for the moment, I won't put that much thought into it.

It has been stated in the Manga that the third coffin Orochimaru summoned with edo tensei was infact Minato. Due to Minato's soul being inside the shiki fuuijin the summon failed, the soul of the person you are summoning has to be either in the earth or something else, but it cannot be sealed away or else it will fail.

Seriously, the real question would be WHY. WHY Madara? Orochimaru summoned the 1st and 2nd hokages not because he needed their power, but because he wanted to use psychological warfare against Hiruzen. He wanted to force the 3rd into fighting his masters, which is very tough mentally. What would be the point of summoning Madara? Hiruzen certainly wouldn't feel bad fighting him. Besides, since you include Shippuden evidence to back up your theories, Hashirama by himself would have killed Hiruzen, so adding Madara is useless. Why Minato then? Well, since Hiruzen entrusted him with the fate of the village, he obviously cares a lot about him. He's also the village hero, so using him against Konoha would be trademark Orochimaru twisted mind.
