yeah I noticed that. Seemed weird to me since so far that clan hasn't been shown at all in the manga/anime, if I'm correct?

I think this is true for a lot of clans though. We've seen the Jounins from the Konoha 11 teams plus a few extra, but there are still a large number of ninja we aren't introduced to.

I guess this puts calling all other ninja's "fodder" into perspective

I still think its great they were shown. The sarutobi were reputed as being powerful ninja's. (Hiruzen's dad, Hiruzen, Asuma, Konohamaru has been stated to have the 3rd genius abilities ect)

Kishi basically likes to kill and revive plot elements before it was said hiruzen was the strongest hokage then a few hundred chapters later it was Hashirama who became top dog the byakugan was said to be were the sharingan was derived and afterwards this was entirely buried and no mention of hiruzen clan for so long and poop they suddenly appear
