Red hair is nothing more than a heritage trait that lies within the Ukumaki clan.. Ukumaki are known for having huge chakra, because of there life force, i don't particularly believe that red hair is the sole reason they have massive chakra.

Although, i guess that Red Hair could be a sign of "Massive Chakra" because it's a trait within a clan that is known for their life force.
