Why your theory may be wrong.

WARNING: This thread was not made to devalue or discredit all theories on this forum, or any forum and talk of Naruto in life in general. The purpose is to expose why theories are risky and help bring more logic and discretion when it comes to creating theories, and to ultimately bring more peace between members on the site, and help each other get more excited about Naruto in general. I also don’t claim some kind of expertise in this area they are mostly thoughts. Finally, this is not an attempt to control what people do or think it will just be a suggestion.

Okay with that out of the way, I wish to explain with clarity why many theories on this website are ludicrous and are usually wrong. I will lay out the examples in groups, so ill move in a linear fashion debunking why the form used is intrinsically wrong.

After I have attacked the popular subjects members like to touch upon, then I will propose a better way to create theories.

“Shadowy” subjects -Historical figures and events (Sage of the six paths, first and second hokage, past shinobi wars, etc..) The main problem with these kinds of theories is that they try to figure out why a certain character acted a certain way, or what really happened in that time. For example, the Tobi theories were rampent with Zetsu being tobi, or Tobi being a split consciousness of Obito and something or someone else, or who and what the Sage of the Six Paths is, etc.. -Techniques (A characters doujutsu, ninjutsu, etc.) These kinds of theories are not so problematic as history or prophecy because we know a lot more about techniques than we do with the prior. Even still some of these theory threads are pushed beyond what is known, and end up being false.

“Prophecy” theories Claiming to know the next set of events in the series based on: -Current Situation (One side seemingly stronger/weaker, love, etc..) It becomes a big deal to create these theories because some people have a direction they already see the series going. For example, the Naru/Hina, or Naru/Saku, heck, even Naru/Sasu. The point is it becomes more personal at these levels. Also, sometimes, considering the gravity of the situation, theories make judgements on the next set of events. Is the Juubi going to kill the Shinobi alliance? or is Madara going to do it? its still not known.

“Mental Acts “ theories By "Mental Acts" I mean to say we tend to try to understand what Kishimoto is thinking while he is creating the plot based on what is already revealed in the plot, or wishful thinking. -Following the “train of thought” of Kishimoto Most people will do this because it seems more logical, but usually Kishimoto has something else going on, like Madara. Who saw that coming way back when? Or Obito? Oh, wait... -What Kishimoto should do These are the only ones that get the treatment because it seems arrogant to force your ideas on the author of a continuing plot.

These are some forms that I’ve noticed people use a lot when they create theories. Now is it wrong? No, because any theory on a show will be subjective no matter what.

This is a problem, though, because this causes people to put down others just because they created a theory or it was too long to read for some people (e.g. Didn’t Read Meme, etc..). This is disheartening because I think theories are meant to expressively demonstrate ones desires, artistic/creative thinking, and overall excitement for the plot development in Naruto. I would argue that forums keep Naruto interesting because of Theories.

This doesn’t mean that Theories are “factual”, that they will happen, but its an art and science of trying to logically expand on a subject, reach the ultimate plot, and try to see what Kishimoto is really thinking.

Some Suggestions With that aside, I would like to provide tips to create better overall theories to further avoid the constant opposition to many Theories on the Base. -If creating a theory, make sure it is consistent with what has already been shown in the series currently. -Whatever doesn’t have much emphasis in the show probably has next to nothing, or nothing to contribute to the plot or Narutoverse. -Use hints with discretion. -Expect to be wrong, so let it be known. -Kishimoto and staff are the true authors of Narutoverse, and even they don’t have the complete plot. -Be creative and have fun!

Not all, but I always find pleasure in reading new theories, even if they are just wishful thinking.
