Since Obito and Madara are Uchiha's, it was needed more senju DNA to control it (Power of Rikudou)

You need the power of the Rikudo to control the Gedo Mazo, if wood release could do it then the rinnegan wouldn't be necessary.

I think they can control the Juubi simply because they both have the Rinnegan. The manga states that they have 'strengthened' their hold on the Juubi by implementing Moukoton, not that the entire control over the beast is because of it.
