Iv'e talked about naruto in public back in high school, it doesn't make you a nerd , you just like different things...I still go parties and clubs with my friends, and they all pretty much know I have a geek side, and they don't care.... If someone laughs at you for it shrug it off

Once again, if the people who were laughing were you're friends, might want to consider if they really are your friends ...
if they were serious that is

For example a friend of mine might call me that in jest, not to be taken seriously

I think what actually matters is whether you are bothered by it or not. Im a nerdy Math/Physics undergrad who has some friends who are "normal" (if that is the word for it) and they make nerd jokes of me all the time, it doesnt really bother me because I just see them as playing around, I dont think they intend to hurt my feelings (not that I would be hurt anyways). That said, constantly talking/obsessing about anything is well... not normal even by nerd standards.

I have a few friend's who wacth naruto but most people in my school like pokemon and adventure time and other stuff you see in CN, lol my cousin's call it cartoon even thought i told them it's anime, but doens't anime mean cartoon in Japanese:confused:

Why does it make you a nerd?

All kinds of people like Naruto. From really young to really old, from male to female, all kinds of different types as well, artistic people, sporty types, emo's, cheerleaders, housewives, people who are the so called nerds, but the so called hot girls watch it as well.
Anime and Manga is for everyone really.
It is not nerd exclusive .

People who think anime and manga is for kids should watch some manga and animes and than say it again.
Kids wont even understand loads of the stuff in anime and manga.
Just because it is animated, doesnt have to mean its for kids.
If something isnt animated on the other hand, doesnt have to mean it is for grownups either.
Sesamestreet isnt animated, but it aint for grown ups .

Anyway, if you enjoy Anime and manga, keep doing so.
It is for all kinds of audiences .
