He has to be cocky, his family puts heaps of pressure on him. Tsume is the narutoverse's no.1 b!tch. Also if you actually pay attention to Kiba his actions don't actually stack up with his mouth. For example -

"Yeah, I got Naruto! This one's an easy win!" is an example from the chuunin exams. Kiba most definitely did act too cocky, but it had some validity since team 8 were the first team from konoha to reach the tower. His cockyness got the better of him and he lost, bad mouthing naruto along the way. BUT if you actually pay attention in the chuunin finals Kiba is the first and one of the few people (the other being hinata, sakura had to be convinced into it) to cheer for Naruto.

"Don't act cool just because Hinata's here"- Is an example of his relationship with Naruto and Hinata which is essentially the same. He likes to tease either side but when it comes to a front he is fiercely loyal and protective of both. He is like a dog, loyal and protective of his friends - its just that he has a friendly teasing attitude with them.

I think a lot of people don't actually take the time to think about Kiba's character. He is actually reasonably complex and interesting. He basically equates to Naruto without the bad childhood, and hence isn't quite as mature. It also doesn't hurt that he is the most animated character in the series, which I like.

why so much hate for Kiba? He grew up, he's not a snobby little kid anymore. The time he was comparing himself to Naruto doesn't matter, because it doesn't matter what others think.

OT: I honestly feel like Kiba hasn't changed at all personality wise. Part of that problem is that Team Kurenai got the least screen time of the squads as a whole. The only combat they ever saw was the chunin exam individuals, the ambush on the genin group, and them the "fight" against Obito. Then in the war they show up in the second division which there was practically no screen time devoted to that division.

Kiba's problem is that he is basically Naruto without the background or need to be so. He is cocky and a smack talker simply because he is where Naruto partly had it because no one paid him attention unless he did so. Also...Naruto has seemingly matured more than Kiba.....then again we don't always see anything from him so we can't day that 100%.....

Still I don't hate the guy

I like Kiba. Like any other K11 character, he grew up alot. He might not be the strongest but his other abilities aren't too bad at all. Plus he is funny and kinda a little hottie.

Kiba should be just the opposite of how he is portrayed. After getting his tail kicked by Naruto he should recognize him as the Alpha and defer to him in all situations. He should be Naruto's number one fanboy and should be wagging his tail in relief every time he is in his presence.
