As far as sad goes I guess between Gaara or Hinata....now this is the way of how I judged it.

Yes it sucks that your family is killed or you have no parents....but that is harder then sad (still crazy sad).

Point is, Gaara and Hinata both had parent(s) that despised them. Gaara grew up having people constantly trying to kill him, though it was tests to ensure the safety of the village. Hinata, while not really having it so hard, grew up as an embarrassment to her father. Despite how hard she worked, she never met her father's expectations so he basically labled her trash.

IMO I find it sadder when someone HAS family, but are neglected, ridiculed, and cast aside by the ONE thing that should always encourage you....

Since Gaara's dad had a reason to protect the village as opposed to Hiashi's flat out neglect...I guess I'll vote Hinata....she had a family of nobility basically and her father treated her like for for not having natural genius. On top of that, she was hated by her cousin just because she was Hiashi's daughter.

After them would be Nagato as he had to grow up in a war torn system...and kill his best friend...

Gaara's dad didnt raise him so he doesnt count (his mothers sister who tried to kill him raised him) Gaara's mother died giving birth to gaara...Just recently we found out that it was his mothers chakra protecting him but she is dead physically so she doesnt count... Gaara would transform into shikaku to defend himself if you remember the anime.... therefore it was his own power

I have to say Sasuke, he had a normal childhood until the massacre took it all away, Naruto didn't grow up with a father or mother so he never experience the trauma of losing them. Sasuke did only to lose them to your own brother, and to be deceived for Sasuke to kill him and only find out that he was actually protecting him is very painful.

Gaara would come second since his family and village resented him but his uncle initially cared for him until Gaara's dad ordered him to try and kill little Gaara, so Gaara also felt the agony of supposed "betrayal" but he made a good working team with his siblings. But Sasuke, well the only sibling he had was Itachi and his whole childhood and teen years were fixated on taking vengeance on him only to find out that his big bro was protecting him the whole time. that's gotta hurt. So overall, when it comes to a rotten childhood, Sasuke takes the cake, so don't wonder why he is so emo all the time.
