Theory on Immortality

I don't want to be immortal or anything like that, it's just a theory.


Cancerous cells are pretty much immortal right? Since they go out of control and spread to different parts of our body and grow to form tumors, and kill us, that's bad. What if all regular cells were given the properties of cancer but were controlled so they do not cause any problems to a body or do not grow to form tumors? Since they have infinite replicative potential and can divide endlessly, that can essentially cause immortality? I don't know, if that can cause an organism to live forever, just a thought.

the question is, why would you want to live forever, you have watch your friends, family die before your eyes and watch the world grow old before your eyes, never get the joys of growing old while your son grows up right before your eyes and get to see the man he grows up to be? (Just an example)

They're far from immortal, but if immortality is some day a reality it will be through biology. If someone can figure out a way to prevent cells from aging and dying, you will in essence create immortality, though you would still be capable of dying from injuries or sickness. I guess its more of ageless-ness than immortality.

If something like immortality would ever be achieved (again?), it would be through biology and most likely spirituality.

I came up with the theory once when I was 15. I was taking a huge, heavenly dump at the time. :lmao:

Interesting theory. But here's the thing with cancer cells, they're not immortal. They just divide and grow at a ridiculously fast pace. The only thing that makes them "immortal" is the enzyme "telomerase". It extends the cell's life span, but it's not making them immortal actually. Cancer cells do die, but the rate the die is far slower than the rate they duplicate. Think of it as overpopulation. There are more people born than dying. That's how cancer cells work. So when these cells do not die, they just form a tumor.

But they are not immortal. If we REALLY wanted to achieve immortality through cells, I think we'd have to mess with the telomerase enzyme in cancer cells. There's also other major things we'd have to look at, but when dealing with cells, telomerase is the way, in my opinion. If we can adjust this enzyme so it can enhance the standard cell (because a cell's DNA shortens a bit every time it divides until it can no longer divide), but not to the point where it has the same characteristics as a cancer cell, then we'd be getting somewhere. Telomerase is an extreme enzyme that just needs some toning down. But can this be achieved? Not with today's technology lol.

It wouldn't make you immortal as say more like an incredibly fast healer...

Only true way to stop the aging process is find a way of stopping our cells from oxidizing (rusting) without completely starving them of said precious oxygen....

That means you're talking about TYPE 1 Immortality, Longevity.
