Re: String theory?
Also its not a hypothesis, It's a theory n their is a difference in the 2.

There are some aspects of loop quantum gravity that show promise as well

This is a quote(word-for-word) straight outta the Big Bang theory this guys just pullin your leg. Anywho if you want to know about it google it, just like anyone else would have to do here on the base. Don't make us do the research for you, you have a computer you can find out the basics yourself, also if your friend isn't in some high quality university, and studies advanced physics, I doubt he knows anything. Just some eight grader trying to sound smart.

Like I said I hang around the physicsforums, if you want details ask those geeks
and no, I'm not pulling anyone's leg when I say that unifying general relativity and quantum mechanics is one of the biggest problems in modern physics

Yeah, that's why I admire Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking for introducing science in a non-technical way to the general populace

Re: String theory?
yeah... string theory is particle physics involving quantum mechanics and general relativity...
One of my friends is taking this at UCLA

Yup and it seems legit but I have heard many critics about it as well.
