Why Rin got killed thread
In this poll you can vote on multiple choices, because you might feel that the reason why Kakashi killed Rin, is due to a a combination of possibilities.
I will give a few possibilities why Rin could have been killed by Kakashi:
Force:
Kakashi was being controlled and couldnt stop his actions. Its not impossible to control someone who has Sharingan.
Itachi could do it with Tsukiyomi. Orochimaru has even cast genjutsu on Sasuke in the forest of death.
Kakashi didnt kill her willingly.
An experiment and/or spy:
Kabuto became an oprhan in the war and was found by Yakushi Nono. After a while Kabuto became a spy.
Rin could have been a similar case. An experiment, a spy or both. They needed her body for the secrets. Kakashi wanted to prevent this by killing her.
Uzumaki/Senju/other special power:
Even though her name is Nohara Rin, it is still possible. Naruto would have been called Namikaze Naruto if his parents wouldnt have died and Naruto could still have Uzumaki blood, without the Uzumaki name.
Rin could have had some special power that we didnt know off and we still not know off.
Jinchuriki:
Rin being the former 3 or 6 tails Jinchuriki. Kurama was in Kushina, the other villages apart from Kirigakure are not important in this matter. That leaves 2 tailed beasts. The 3 tailed turtle or the 6 tailed slug.
Anbu/Root type of training,
where you have to kill your teammate (Like Sai and his Non-biological brother):
Kakashi knew Rin and him, had to kill each other eventually. So if Rin would die in the near future anyway, he decided to kill her on that mission, to make sure non of them got captured and to create the highest chances to get away (it would be more difficult if he had to protect her and get away at the same time).
Old Kakashi:
Kakashi was still being the old kakashi from time to time and was not completely following in Obito's footsteps yet.
He choose the succes rate for the mission, over protecting his friends. Maybe after this mission, Kakashi followed in Obito's footsteps completely.
Zetsu:
Zetsu was involved in this matter.
Some other reason:
I feel like I have given an overview of the possibilities. If you feel like the reason why Kakashi killed Rin, is not among these 7 above, than please share why you believe that Kakashi killed Rin and select choice 8.
Do share what your reason is though. Why did Kakashi kill Rin according to you.
-
Please vote and hopefully after some discussion, we can get to the most likely reason, why Rin got killed, narrow it down, or get some more insights.
Thanks for reading.

I don't think there is any possibility that she's a jinchuuriki...

Re: Why Rin got killed thread
No,
she died because she couldn't protect herself, and instead needed Obito and Kakashi to protect her. When the "Sakura Role" first came to fruition.
We should call it "Rin Role"...since she created it first.
Apparently female ninjas become ninjas to be "protected"...and not to protect others and themselves.

Doesn't make it impossible .
OT: Experiment/spy is the likeliest of the theories.

Re: Why Rin got killed thread
probably had intel the enemy needed and like kisame kakashi chose to kill her instead of having it leaked. plus she would have been tortured if captured

Re: Why Rin got killed thread
Kakashi has no parents, so it's likely he took part in anbu root training, however, I think it's too hard to get out of, the rest of the possibilities seem vague IMO. Why would Rin be a spy. She showed no spy-like abilities, and healing isn't useful as a spy?? Jinchuriki no, rest seems weirder,
What is more, we have no real knowledge of how long Obito spend in that cave, but his hair grew really long. Why did Kakashi look exactly like he did, when Obito "died"? This is very confusing. Did Kakashi and Rin stay at the battlefield so long after? Perhaps they just had some B/C rank observation mission to keep an eye out for new enemies.
It would make sense if they had different observation posts, and thus Rin saw something, which gave her information of huge importance. She then sent the message with a summoning, or whatever method, she could have to do so back to Konoha. They found out, and Kakashi (who probably was nearby), came to help her, they run, he realize only choice is to kill her, since else they could find out, exactly, what she heard (which would be important if it was strategic plan or whatever). This also explains why backup came later.
In short, Rin obtained some important information, and thus they needed to capture her, to figure, what exactly it was, and thus torture etc would be used, and Kakashi killed her, for her sake.

Re: Why Rin got killed thread
You may wish to invalidate the possibility of her being jinchuuriki, now...
As the clear Jinchuuriki of the three tails had been the fourth Mizukage Yagura, and Utakata carried the six tails, therefore i carry absolute doubt that she had been a Jinchuuriki.
As to being a spy, I carry doubt upon that as well due to her having been captured and placed under genjutsu by enemy of Iwagakure, and information even as subtle and fragile as that would have at least been hinted.

Yeah maybe they wanted info out of her. That could be the case.
Btw about spies and healers.
Yakushi Nono (Kabuto his non-biological mother), was a super spy and head of the medic corps. She was a healer. Kabuto was a spy and a great healer as well. Being a healer, actually allows for being a great spy, cause you have some good tools to get on the enemies good side, heal them, gain their trust and such.

Force:

Itachi could do it with Tsukiyomi. Orochimaru has even cast genjutsu on Sasuke in the forest of death.

Possible
An experiment and/or spy:
Kabuto became an oprhan in the war and was found by Yakushi Nono. After a while Kabuto became a spy.
Rin could have been a similar case. An experiment, a spy or both. They needed her body for the secrets. Kakashi wanted to prevent this by killing her.
In the beginning of the series kakashi comments that a dead ninjas body holds many secrets it could of been for typical reasons or there could of been something unique about her.If there is it means its unknown to either of her team mates as in every flash back we have seen her in she has shown nothing special.
Are you using the names uzumaki and senju as an example of some great power or suggesting she is an actual uzumaki or senju ?
It seems very arbitrary to make her a uzumaki or senju at this point then again i am not the one who makes this manga so i would have to see how it would play out but once again and the most likely from this selection is that she had some type of power or knowledge.
Jinchuriki:
Rin being the former 3 or 6 tails Jinchuriki. Kurama was in Kushina, the other villages apart from Kirigakure are not important in this matter. That leaves 2 tailed beasts. The 3 tailed turtle or the 6 tailed slug.
The jinchuuri host die when there extracted making this one very unlikely. Also the fact she has been with the leaf since a very early age when would she have the time to be a jinchuuriki then have it extracted and move to konoha ?
Anbu/Root type of training,
where you have to kill your teammate (Like Sai and his Non-biological brother):
Kakashi knew Rin and him, had to kill each other eventually. So if Rin would die in the near future anyway, he decided to kill her on that mission, to make sure non of them got captured and to create the highest chances to get away (it would be more difficult if he had to protect her and get away at the same time).
I think this outcome although possible unlike the jinchuuriki one is in bad taste and adds nothing to the story and would not be worth all this wait.
Old Kakashi:
Kakashi was still being the old kakashi from time to time and was not completely following in Obito's footsteps yet.
He choose the succes rate for the mission, over protecting his friends. Maybe after this mission, Kakashi followed in Obito's footsteps completely.
Same as the previous theory it just seems like a cop out from actually penning something meaningful or interesting
Zetsu:
Zetsu was involved in this matter.
I personally doubt it

Why not? Its not where my preference goes too, but it is an option. They very much cared for capturing Rin and Kakashi decided to kill her and screw with their mission or plans. When a jinc dies a bijou dies (and revives sometime later). If they wanted to get their hands on the bijou, than killing Rin could put a stop to their plans. We dont know when Yagura and Utakata became Jinchurikies.

It does sound kinda funny if you read the poll question and than ''old kakashi'' as a reason .

The walking maiden and kabuto were both medics who turned tout to be the best spies shown in the series.Being able to heal people was specifically pointed out to be a good thing as a way to earn the trust of the enemy.
What is more, we have no real knowledge of how long Obito spend in that cave, but his hair grew really long. Why did Kakashi look exactly like he did, when Obito "died"?
Because unlike obito kakashi was not stuck in a case and was able to groom properly lol Seriously your thinking about hair ? lol

Seems like the only feasible option without sounding far fetched.

Extraction kills the host reason number one and most important reason
Yagura was the leader of the mist during the time of rins death. And rin has been with the leaf for quite some time. When is it even remotely possible for her to become a jinchuuriki ? then somehow survive a process that has been stated many times to be fatal no matter what ? then manage to make it to the leaf ? This raises way too many questions when the goal is to answer them.
