Asuma is just disappointing
Isn't Asuma just really disappointing? His dad Hiruzen Sarutobi is arguably along with Hashirama, the greatest ninja of all time and Asuma was just a mid-jounin....
I would think Hiruzen, being the Professor would try to train Asuma and make him a Kage level ninja by passing down Konoha's jutsus to him however he just taught the 3 legendary Sannin when they were genin.
I just think Asuma should have been hell of a lot more powerful than what he was.
Thoughts?

You can't pass talent on through family unless your Senju, Uchiha or uzumaki.
That is a manga fact!

They never got along if I remember correctly. Asuma even left Konoha for a while. I agree though he is disappointing.

People are too critical on him. He was strong. Besides, when you're head of the village you don't have time to babysit your kid. No way Hiruzen had time through major wars and an era of conflict to properly teach Asuma much.

Yea....he can't beat that many jounin+ ninja in the series. He has 2 pretty good ninjutsu, and very good Taijutsu, theres not much more than that.

Asuma lost to Hidan.......Hiruzen defeated edo Hashirama and Tobirama, then almost defeated Orochimaru but instead sealed his arms.
Not hating on Asuma, but how was his fight better?

But those are really the only families that have background knowledge and plot, so it really isnt a manga fact.
Plus, you just named the clans that the greatest ninja of all time are in, Hiruzen was one of the greatest of all time, his clan should be like the other clans that you named, it would make sense because Hiruzen would pass his teachings on. Konohamaru after Naruto is most likely going to be Hokage too, based on hints in the manga.

Re: Asuma is just disappointing
Asuma being MID JOUNIN? he with Shikamaru owned Hidan, i mean if Shikamaru had info on Hidan before the fight, they would win and Asuma wouldn't die, seriously, Asuma Mid jounin, lol
Note. Hiruzen>Hashirama

Then how and why did he teach 3 other random genin? They were random at first before Hiruzen got to know them and learn their abilities.

Re: Asuma is just disappointing
I have to agree with him, I was disappointed with asuma's strength I thought he would be stronger based on his lineage. I mean if konohamaru is supposed to be a great shinobi one day with the only reason seeming to be his grandfather is hiruzen

One, they were branded as geniuses. He was the only one qualified to teach them. Two, it would be seen as favoritism for his own clan. There's a political requirement for separation. Under that logic, why didn't Choji just tutor under his own father who knew all of their clan's strongest techniques? And why even bother sending the Hyuga to learn under others either? Members of the individual clans must be trained by others.

So Asuma went up against the weakest member of the Akatsuki (excluding Zetsu because he isn't a figher), and one if not the smartest ninja in the narutoverse on his side and still died?
Mid jounin.
