Well Lelouch is overall a better player most likely, seeing as he's grown up playing it. I bet L, after a few games, could find a way to beat him. Then Lelouch would use his Geass to kill L. Tragic, really.

Well Lelouch is helped a good deal by the fact that he's actually proven his mettle when it comes to a straight-up chess match. The victor between the two in regard to intelligence is certainly debatable but when it comes to chess I'd give it to Lelouch for the sole reason that he's actually proven to be a troll at chess, whereas with L it would all be conjecture and assumptions based on hype really.
