Similarities in the most successful anime/mangas?

What are something(s) that all good, popular anime consist of?
I can't find any tbh, except that the main characters almost always has characteristics that the other characters in their world don't have.

True, excluding Death Note and Code Geass. That's why they always need their brainiac campanion(s).

My favorite shows r trigun dbz and naruto n all 3 have crazy random main characters that r simply goofy but can be deadly serious.
Full metal he's silly but smart n serious but the story line is amazing. So combo of story+ main characters personality

Lots of fighting, lots of supernatural powers, dumb main character (in some cases) or a genius, friendship is emphasized on, righteousness, ultimate evil that has to be defeated, big boobs

Re: Similarities in the most successful anime/mangas?

yeah, Perverted characters :D I forgot about that. There's one that I know! A few anime have something related to Dragon Ball, or Journey To The West. InuYasha - A guy named Son Goku and and his pig friend in one of the episodes.
Yu Yu Hakusho - King Yemma and the other world.
Naruto - The Jinchuriki named Roshi. The Tailed Beast named Son Goku. When creating Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto incorporated into the character a number of traits he felt made an ideal hero: a straightforward way of thinking, a mischievous side, and many of the attributes possessed by Son Gokū from the Dragon Ball franchise. I copy and pasted that from Narutopedia from the creation and concept section.
