Bigger doesn't always equal better or more dangerous. It depends on how one handles the weapon. You can handle a big weapon and still loose to someone using a smaller weapon if that person used it in a better or smarter way. *shrugs*

Aside from that, Sasuke was not really in a clear mind during that time and back then he was in a period of using Naruto's mindset more: attack first and then start thinking.
